Tulane dominated Navy, our can't miss Christmas events, Burtis House rehab...

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. This is Naptown Scoop – the newsletter that never needs to be reminded to do the dishes twice.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Tulane dominated Navy

  • Our can’t-miss Christmas events

  • Burtis House rehabilitation

Let’s get to it.

— Lauren Burke Meyer, Dylan Roche, Duffy Perkins, Chelsea Harrison, & Ryan Sneddon

Look Into The New Year

Have you looked in the mirror lately and wondered why you always seem to look as though you didn't get enough sleep? No matter how many hours you get, it's the same thing — puffy eyes, droopy eyelids, and bags. Eyelid surgery by Annapolis facial plastic surgery specialist, Dr. Namita Murthy, can eliminate these signs of age and fatigue, restoring a youthful, vibrant appearance.

THE DIGEST

Burtis House gets rehabbed 🛠

The historic waterman’s cottage on Prince George Street known as the Burtis House is undergoing work. The goal for Phrase I: repair flood damage and stabilize it for future use. HD Squared Architects of Annapolis and Richard Hammond Builders of Centreville, overseen by Preservation Maryland, started work on the project on Monday. After stabilization, the project goes to Phase II, when the house will get a new raised foundation and site improvements as part of the City Dock Resiliency Project. This rehabilitation effort preserves an important part of the city’s history as a working waterman’s port.

Volunteer Request: HHH greens sale 💚👍

Here’s a way to get on the nice list while getting into the holiday spirit and supporting a National Historic Landmark. Volunteers are invited to the historic Hammond-Harwood House to help create items that will be sold at the Holiday Greens Sale. Sign up for a time slot Monday, December 2 through Friday, December 6 to make wreaths, centerpieces, and julep cup decorations to benefit the house that was built in 1774. All are welcome. No experience necessary. Questions? Contact Eleni Kakomanolis at 410-263-4683 ext. 10.

Annapolis Bus Driver Retiring After 38 Years

If we’re honest, very few of us would last an entire shift driving a city bus. But Annapolitan Jerry Lincoln has been doing just that for the last 38 years. Lincoln, 82, received his commercial driver’s license in the late 1950s and has been driving professionally ever since. In 1987, he moved to Annapolis and started driving for the city, most frequently along the Green Route. After putting over one million miles under his seat, he’s ready to put it in park. “As long as I get out there and cut my grass and keep my place looking nice, that’s all I’m concerned with,” he told the Capital. Catch one last ride from Jerry Lincoln on the Green Route before he retires at the end of the month. ($)

Naptown Scoop’s Can’t-Miss Holiday Events

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and we’re getting ready to celebrate in all of our favorite Annapolitan ways. Here’s a roundup of the holiday traditions we highly recommend you don’t miss.

🛍 Midnight Madness
Whether you live for holiday shopping or dread it, Midnight Madness is for you. Downtown Annapolis shops stay open late and many serve refreshments or offer special discounts. The energy is unlike any other time of the year and it honestly feels like you’re in a Hallmark movie. This year’s Midnight Madness dates are December 5, 12, and 19.

🚤 Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade
This is the kind of thing that only Annapolis can host – a lights parade on the water. When dozens of holly jolly sailors and boaters light their vessels in a way Clark Griswold would be jealous of. This year’s parade is the night of December 14. There’s still time to register your boat. The deadline is December 6 at 5 PM.

🚙 Lights on the Bay
If you can’t get enough lights (and really, who can?), then you probably love Lights on the Bay at Sandy Point State Park. This iconic light display is something the whole family loves, because you get to pile into the car and drive through the show. Lights on the Bay opens November 24 and runs through January 1.

💥 New Year’s Eve fireworks
Downtown is always the best place to ring in the new year. There will be a family fireworks show at 7 PM followed by another one at midnight (when else?) best viewed from City Dock, the Eastport Bridge, or even from the top of the Hillman Parking Garage. If you’re 21+ and looking for a good time, check out The Choptank or Watermark for two planned-for-you bashes.

💡Bonus: Did you know Annapolis offers free parking during the holiday season? You can get 2 free hours at parking meters and 1 free hour at the Hillman Garage between Thanksgiving and New Year’s.

Nothing in this section is sponsored. They're just the things you need to know. I'll always let you know when something's sponsored.

The sell-out crowd at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium was nearly gone by the fourth quarter on Saturday. #25 (now #20) Tulane showed how dangerous they were in a 35–0 rout. It was the first time Navy had been shut out at home in over a decade. 7–3 Navy still has 2 more games and is already bowl-eligible, but they won’t be competing for the American Athletic Conference Championship. Tulane punched their ticket to face Army in that game with their dominant win on Saturday.

Navy football 💚 New England

Whenever Navy’s the host of its annual showdown with Notre Dame, the game’s always played outside of Annapolis. This season it was MetLife Stadium. In 2022 it was M&T Bank Stadium. And in 2026, the iconic rivalry is heading to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA – home of the New England Patriots. Gillette also hosted last year’s Army-Navy Game. And Navy’s people were clearly impressed. So mark your calendar, Navy fans. The 99th game in one of college football’s most respectful rivalries is set for October 31, 2026 in Foxborough, MA.

Severna Park girls soccer makes it two straight state titles ⚽️ 🏆

The Severna Park girls' soccer team scored big with their second consecutive Class 3A state title and 4-0 win over Towson at Loyola Maryland’s Ridley Athletic Complex. Erin Hussey and Abby Cover scored early goals, while Maria Bragg netted two more in the second half, leading the Falcons to their eighth state championship under Coach Rick Stimpson. Despite graduating a large portion of last year’s roster – 12 seniors – the Falcons soared this season, finishing 18-1. Congrats ladies and Coach Rick! ($)
