We’ve been telling you for weeks about all the amazing local shopping ops to get your holiday lists checked off. Now it’s gametime. Black Friday is upon us in two short days (not to mention Plaid Friday, Pink Friday, and Small Business Saturday!)
Want to make the shopping experience fun for the whole fam? Naptown Scoop has teamed up with 10 shops along Maryland Ave to bring you Scav on the Ave, an interactive scavenger hunt with prizes that starts on Black Friday (11/29) through Dec 12! Grab a copy of our Scavenger Hunt checklist on the Journal or ask any of the 10 stores listed below for a copy. You’ll have to search high and low for the ice cream plushie, and when you find it, snap a pic, let the shopkeeper know, and choose a small prize! Mom and dad get to browse, kiddos get prizes, and we’re all supporting small businesses. Now that is what the nice list is all about.

Get the EYC Lights Parade to #1
We want to see the EYC Lights Parade name in lights, and you can help. In 2016, it won the USA Today poll of "10 Best Holiday Parades.” Last year, it earned the No. 4 spot on the same list. We know we can reclaim our No. 1 spot, but we need your help.
Vote for the EYC Lights Parade by December 1. Psst — you can vote daily. 🤫

LOCAL BUSINESS
Life Time Annapolis doubles in size and adds indoor pickleball
When Life Time opened at Annapolis Town Center two Novembers ago, it was already the biggest gym in Annapolis. But when Bed Bath & Beyond closed, they saw an opportunity – pickleball. You may not know this but Life Time is the largest operator of dedicated pickleball courts in the USA with over 750. So about 16 months after Bed Bath & Beyond closed, Life Time opened a 46,000-square-foot expansion featuring 11 pickleball courts, courtside lounges, and a pro shop with all sorts of gear including their own patented ball, the Ultimate Pickleball. They even have 4 pros on staff for lessons.
But it’s not all about pickleball. The expansion also allowed Life Time to add more equipment, space out the existing equipment, and create a high-performance recovery and mobility zone featuring cryo and hydro massage chairs, dynamic stretching tables, and compression boots.
Want to check it out for yourself? Book a complimentary tour!
Now our only question is how long until there’s a pickleball emoji? Because 🏓 and 🥒🎾 aren’t cuttin’ it.

How to keep your pets safe this Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is for family, friends, and feasting – but some holiday favorites are dangerous for pets.
Onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, and chocolate are toxic to animals. Even small amounts pose serious health risks.
Additionally, turkey bones can splinter and become major choking hazards.
To ensure your pet’s safety, keep those foods out of paw’s reach. You might even consider a quiet space for your pets away from the holiday hustle.
Thanks to Western Shore Veterinary Hospital for keeping our pets safe! If you have any concerns this Thanksgiving, don’t hesitate to contact them.

Baysox rebrand ⚾️ 🦀
Some may say the Bowie Baysox are getting a glow-up . . . The Orioles’ Double-A affiliate has rebranded as the Chesapeake Baysox to appeal to fans across the Chesapeake Bay region. The Baysox will continue playing at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie. Their new logo features a crab holding a baseball bat and the Maryland flag. While some, like Del. Adrian Boafo (Bowie’s former vice mayor), criticize the name change, others see it as a move to boost attendance. The team debuted in 1993, and Attain Sports purchased it in 2022. Attain Sports also recently acquired the Aberdeen Ironbirds from Cal Ripken Jr. and his bro Billy, who both still own a share of the team.
