WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

Black Market Bakers is cookie-winner ready 🍫🥜

Last week, we announced The Great Naptown Bake Off winners. This week, Black Market Bakers (BMB) is fulfilling their yummy promise to sell the winning recipe: Maryalice Brady’s Fudgy Salty Peanut Butter Bar Cookies.

Starting today until Monday (12/16), you can scoop up all the chocolatey, salty, peanut buttery goodness from BMB. Visit them at 155 Mitchells Chance Rd in Edgewater.

Did you know? Black Market Bakers has a new hangout in Severna Park. The food truck is parked at The Station, 44 W Earleigh Heights Rd in Severna Park every Saturday and Sunday, 8 AM until sellout! FYI — BMB regularly sells out. 🧑‍🍳💋

✨ Countdown to the Lights Parade ✨

As of Monday, a grand total of 27 boats are registered to participate in this year’s Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade. That means anyone watching from along Spa Creek on Saturday will be treated to an appropriately Annapolitan display of festive illumination as the boats pass by between 6-8 PM. A mix of powerboats and sailboats between 18’ and more than 40’ are slated to show off a variety of themes pulling from maritime and pop culture, all with a yuletide twist. Watch from anywhere along the Annapolis Harbor, and keep an eye out for an announcement of winners after the parade.

Call for volunteers: Bykes 2 Tykes 🚲

You don’t have to be an elf — or have any real gift-making experience — to help Bicycle Advocates of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County (BikeAAA), in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club, put together the ultimate gifts. Volunteers are needed this weekend to assemble and deliver bicycles for the Bykes 2 Tykes effort. See dates/time and sign up for a slot.

Lafayette’s Farewell Tour ⛴️

Ready to celebrate the anniversary of an anniversary? Back in 1824, President James Monroe invited the Marquis de Lafayette — a French nobleman who fought alongside George Washington in the Revolutionary War — for a tour of the US. This tour was to commemorate the Revolution’s 50th anniversary.

200 years later, it’s time to celebrate the anniversary of that tour. So this weekend, plan to join our local tour company Watermark (where they’re always eager to celebrate local history!) for a few events to highlight Lafayette’s connections to Annapolis.

Open house and storytimes with author Selene Castrovilla will be on Saturday, noon-4 PM, with book talks at 1 PM and 3 PM. Selene will share her picture book Revolutionary Friends: General George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette, and you can even pick up a signed copy. Catch special editions of the walking tour with a period-attired guide on Saturday and Sunday. Get full info.

Save the date: Maryland Day ❤️💛🖤

It’s never too early to start planning for how you’re going to celebrate our state’s rich history and heritage during Maryland Day Weekend this spring. Next year’s theme is “Unity Through Community” and the dates are March 21-23, 2025. Several local organizations are already announcing how they’re going to celebrate. Get full details.
