Dog of the Week is finally named Snoopy, Timber Pizza's favorite bagel shop comes to town, JCPenney isn't closing...
TOGETHER WITH
Good morning, Annapolis. There’s a burning question going around the Internet: Who would win in a fight, 100 men or a single gorilla? People. . . if a gorilla went to Gold’s gym it could bench a literal ton, squat a Toyota camry, and crush a coconut like we pop bubble wrap. My money’s on the gorilla.
In today’s Naptown Scoop:
We finally had a dog of the week named Snoopy
Timber Pizza’s favorite bagel shop comes to town
JCPenney isn’t closing
Let’s get to it.

THE DIGEST
Bill Belichick gets interviewed at Maryland Hall
This local story is as cool as it gets. Maryland Hall (formerly Annapolis High) hosted a viral CBS News Sunday Morning interview with 73-year-old Bill Belichick. Why? The UNC head football coach is promoting his new book, The Art of Winning: Lessons from My Life in Football. And what better backdrop than where the legendary coach went to high school? 🏈
Severna Park high grad and reporter Tony Dokoupil (who has his own cool story) interviewed Belichick in the second-floor lobby. Belichick reflected on his career, memories of Annapolis, and his father’s influence at Navy, all while wearing a tattered Navy sweatshirt. Little of the segment focused on his book, due out May 6. It also didn’t include a question about how Belichick met his 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson because she shut down the question.

SPCA Dog of the Week: Meet Snoopy!
Girls, what’s my weakness? Puppies! With the forehead elevens of George Clooney, the deep, penetrating eyes of Frank Sinatra, and the mischievous grin of Bradley Snooper, this dog makes us want to quit work early and play with those ears. Less than three months old, our confident Super Snooper is looking for a life partner who enjoys throwing balls, buying new footwear, and repeating the phrase, “Can I get some fries with that shake-shake Snoopy?” Part bull mastiff, part shepherd, our confident Snoop Puppy will grow into what is lovingly referred to as the “City Cow” range, so make sure you’re ready to create space in your house and your heart before he steals it all. So call off from work, puppy proof your house, and get ready to take a ride in a coupe: he makes us want to Snoop.

LOCAL BUSINESS
Call Your Mother answers the call in Annapolis 🥯
We’re dubbing this phenomenon the Timber Pizza effect: Popular D.C. restaurants (like Timber Pizza) are seeing a hot market in Annapolis and opening up here. The latest to heed the call is Call Your Mother, a bagel (and schmear) deli owned by a couple who helped found Timber. Daniela Moreira and Andrew Dana opened their first Call Your Mother in 2018 and have since expanded to 20 spots across D.C., Virginia, Maryland, and Colorado. They’ll open up in the Harbor Center this summer, with plans for another nearby location in Edgewater soon after. ($)
JCPenney isn’t closing at Annapolis Mall afterall
Last month, we told you change happens and JCPenney at the Annapolis Mall was one of eight locations the retail company planned to close this year. Turns out, plans also change. Going-out-of-business signs are coming down, hiring signs are going up, and liquidation has stopped. JCPenney extended its lease at the mall and will be there through August, potentially longer if they can negotiate terms with mall ownership Centennial. You might say Penney’s plans to close stopped on a dime. (Okay, we’ll stop with the coin puns.) ($)
🔎 Fun fact: Scoop publisher Ryan still has his high school prom tux from JCPenney Annapolis, which was only $100 but continues to serve him well — he’s still wearing it 10 years (and two trips to the tailor) later.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’
Ready for the parade? 🇺🇸
If you’re looking for an excuse to get in an extra 15,000 steps, the City of Annapolis has released its guidelines for participating in the Memorial Day and Independence Day parades (May 26 and July 4, respectively). Marching bands, color guards, comic units, businesses, social clubs, and more are all encouraged to apply to honor our fallen troops. Politicians, however, are not (at least for Memorial Day). And let’s face it: after taking a lollipop to the noggin last year, don’t you really want to be the one handing out the candy this time? Get your crew and get in line: it’s (almost) parade time.
