🍦What Annapolis looked like in the 50s

Fashion For a Cause, Mother's Day events, DNR's annual photo contest...

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. In honor of Naptown Scoop reaching 22,000 subscribers last night, I want to publicly praise every member of our team. They have no idea this is happening (hehe).

Elle, you are the unseen air traffic control tower – guiding and supporting everyone with poise and precision. Without you, Scoop would be chaos.

Lauren, our longest-tenured writer, you’re constantly bringing in stories from around town that keep Scoop fresh.

Duffy, your wit is endlessly hilarious and your writing speed is unmatched.

Dylan, you always come in clutch with the Sunday writing nobody else wants to do, even after you’ve run 50 miles in the rain.

Gavin, you upgraded our video production by about 50 million times. Almost 1 million people have watched your work in the last 90 days.

And Mike, the ultimate pig (that’s a compliment for those in the know), your willingness and ability to learn and adapt and your persistence are a joy to work with.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Fashion For a Cause

  • Mother’s Day events

  • DNR’s annual photo contest

Let’s get to it.

Brad Kappel’s Home of the Week: A Severn River Masterpiece

The Severn River winds past many fine homes — but few as timeless, as peaceful, as this.

Welcome to 1900 Carrollton Road, a showstopping waterfront estate on the Severn River with panoramic views from nearly every window. Built by Pilli Custom Homes, this extraordinary residence offers over-the-top craftsmanship, timeless elegance, and the kind of setting that simply can’t be replicated.

Whether you're hosting guests in the London-style pub, lounging by the heated saltwater pool, or setting off on a voyage from your private beach and commercial-grade pier, every moment here is elevated. Inside, the gourmet kitchen, elegant home office, multiple fireplaces, and a sanctuary-like primary suite create a lifestyle that balances luxury with comfort.

Tucked in a peaceful enclave yet minutes from downtown Annapolis, this is one of the most exceptional properties ever offered on the Severn River.

Contact Brad Kappel for your private showing. This is waterfront living at its absolute finest.

THE DIGEST

DNR’s photo contest is open for entries

Hey hey, shutterbugs! Ready to go through your photo library and find some award-winning warblers? The Department of Natural Resources photo contest is now running with prizes up to $700 and a coveted spot on the cover of DNR’s 2026 calendar. To enter, send in your landscape-oriented photos of wildlife along with a $10 entry fee (you can submit more than one photo) no later than noon on August 1. Remember that the best photos often have the least editing, so go easy on the Photoshop. The osprey never appreciate your talent with slim effects, anyway.

Last year’s winner: Green Heron in the Gardens by Debby Berlyne

Western Shore Veterinary Hospital offers your pets the finest wellness care, state-of-the-art diagnostics, dental treatment, and surgery ranging from spays/neuters to sophisticated treatments. You can find them online, by phone at 443-936-0660, or at 910C Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401.

Dog of the Week: Meet Lilo!

Millennial Scoop readers will recognize ‘Lilo’ as the nickname for the leading actress of our generation, Ms. Lindsay Lohan. And this isn’t necessarily a coincidence: our canine diva loves attention, is best friends with her foster mom, and sniffs everything indiscriminately. She has a huge personality that commands attention in any room she enters, and when you’ve tired her out at the dog park, she’ll pass out on the floor and nap like a champ. Just throw a Juicy Couture blanket over her and don’t disturb her snoring. This American Pitty is so fun adorable that you’ll soon realize that when it comes to how much one person can love their dog, the limit does not exist.

Lilo’s is 3 years old and has been at the SPCA since January 1, 2023.

Local School Receives National Attention for Phone-Free Schooling Policy

St. Anne’s School has received national attention after implementing a research-backed, cell phone-free schooling policy. This past February, leaders at the School were asked to present at the National Association of Independent School’s Annual Conference to share the policy’s impact on students, faculty, and families. In the School’s most recent podcast episode, guests discuss that impact, looking closely at both the academic and social data they’ve collected and the anecdotal evidence as shared by the students themselves and their teachers. Outcomes of Phone-Free Schooling is available on either Spotify or Apple Podcasts.

Looking for a research-informed school that cares about your child’s academic and emotional well-being? Limited space remains in select grades. Contact Director of Admissions Haley DeMaria to learn more.
