Annapolis Songwriters Festival returns, Fig + Flower’s grand opening, Carnival at Annapolis Mall...

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. Ever wondered why Goodyear flies blimps for marketing? Turns out the first CEO back in 1925 just thought they were cool. “Aerial yachts” he called them. And while luxury blimps never became mainstream, they do make for some pretty remarkable marketing.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Annapolis Songwriters Festival returns

  • Fig + Flower’s grand opening

  • Carnival at Annapolis Mall

Let’s get to it.

THE DIGEST

36 hours in Annapolis poll ⏱️⚓️

Yesterday, we shared Charles Babington’s 36 hours in Annapolis. It ran in a little ole publication called New York Times. Heard of it? Us either.

Anyway, we polled y’all to ask if we should live out his itinerary. It was an overwhelming yes: 93% of readers want to see it on film. Stay tuned, and in the meantime, here’s some of the praise y’all heaped on Charles.

📲 “As someone who recently moved away from Annapolis (miss it too!), it would be great to see it on Instagram.

💯 “Wonderful guide! On reading it, you think of all the things left out, too, especially Maryland Ave. Loving Annapolis.

📜 “Well done with so much history.”

Dog of the Week: Meet Karla

Do you feel that Annapolis lost its spark when Lord and Taylor closed? Or that being judgmental is an ideal character trait? Has your mother ever suggested you lower your standards? If so, have we got a puppy for you! Princess Karla is a 5-pound chihuahua who enjoys Paris runway shows, gossip, and crisp chardonnays.

Her idea of the perfect night is sitting on a soft cushion listening to you yammer about how the Real Housewives have no class. Smaller than a stiletto, this sassy sister fits in a designer bag ensuring you never have to shop alone again. You might not have envisioned a chihuahua as your ride or die, but Karla will upgrade your life (and your wardrobe) like the ultimate best friend should.

Karla is 5.5 years old and has been at the SPCA since September 2024. She’s currently in a foster home doing great with several other cats and small dogs.

The Carnival rolls into town June 5–15. Where? Annapolis Mall’s lot across from Bank of America. It’s time for rides that don’t look safe but (probably) are. Just kidding. They are. Games your kids will spend way too much money playing and never win. And tasty treats your doctor would tell you definitely not to eat. But we’re not your doctor. We’re Naptown Scoop. So dig in!

Weather permitting, catch the excitement on weekdays (5–11 PM) or weekends (1–11 PM). Get the scoop on ticket prices and wristbands. 🎟️ Always go for the wristband.

Hospice Cup Sip For a Cause at Dodon Winery

Some sailing regattas give you warm beer and a $50 bracelet your coworker has to cut off your wrist on Monday morning. And there’s a time and a place for those regattas. But that’s not Hospice Cup. In the leadup to their annual regatta this September, they’re hosting a private vineyard tour and wine tasting at Davidsonville’s Dodon Winery. Because they’re fancy like that. Hospice Cup is September 13. Sip for a Cause is Thursday, June 5. Get tickets.

Save the date: Pops in the Park 🎺

If these sound like the makings of the ultimate summer evening, you’re in luck — the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra plans to close out summer with Pops in the Park on August 31 at Quiet Waters. The free performance starts at 5:30 PM and the slate promises a mix of light classics and danceable tunes.

We know what you might be thinking: I don’t even have plans for the Fourth of July, how am I supposed to be thinking about September? Well, the Annapolis Songwriters Festival is worth planning ahead. This long weekend runs September 11–14 and happens all over downtown Annapolis — Rams Head, Maryland Hall, and many bars and restaurants. Plus, there will be a mix of big names and local favorites performing. This year’s lineup hasn’t been announced and tickets aren’t on sale, but at least we have dates.

EXTRA SPRINKLES

The #2 way to make fundraisers better

What’s the first way? No idea. But the #2 way is definitely luxury bathroom trailers. People have called Royal Flush’s bathrooms the “nicest bathrooms I’ve ever seen” and “better than the bathrooms in my house.” And that’s not made-up marketing talk. Those are real quotes we’ve heard on the job. Want your guests to say the same? Studies show that guests who like the bathrooms donate more+. Call Royal Flush at 410-881-6848 to secure the finest bathrooms in town.

+ We made this up but the quotes are real*
