Good morning, Annapolis. We released the first Anchors Aweigh Podcast this morning. It’s 35 minutes and 44 seconds long. Listen here or wherever you get your podcasts.

THE DIGEST

Chuck Mulligan is stronger than you

He can bench press 286 pounds even though he only weighs 207 himself. And while that’s a respectable number, it normally wouldn’t set any records in competition. But Chuck Mulligan is 80 years old. He lives right here in Annapolis, trains at the Y in Arnold (formerly Big Vanilla), and even beat cancer a few years ago. The Severna Park Voice caught up with Chuck after he set the octogenarian bench press record in July.

Crabcake Review: Blackwall Hitch

We checked out Blackwall Hitch’s crabcakes with Blue Heron Property Services’ own Kathryn Tippett last week. Watch the review and see how they stack up.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Severna Park’s new snowball stand

Did you know there’s a snowball stand just steps off the B&A Trail? It’s located at 4 Riggs Avenue and is appropriately named B&A Snowball Station. The owners, Patrick and Catie Codd and Dylan and Amanda Wood, are lifelong Severna Park residents; the land where B&A Snowball Station sits has been in the Codd family for nearly 100 years. B&A Snowball Station exclusively flavors their ice with Maryland-based Kavern syrups.

Hellas is closing

Ok, so this is technically outside of Scoop’s radius but the crabcake is so iconic that we have to include it. Hellas in Millersville is closing after 25 years in business. You’ve got until September 3 to enjoy Hellas’ unique combination of Greek and American food and say goodbye to the Stavlas family. Hellas is located at 8498 Veterans Highway, Millersville, MD 21108.

Get off on the right paw 🐾

Playfulness, high-pitched barks, an adorable face — who doesn’t love puppies? But with puppies come many questions: What do you feed them? What vaccines do they need?

Breeders and pet store workers love to give you an answer. But they didn’t go to vet school. Western Shore Veterinary Hospital’s doctors did.

Bringing your puppy in to see the staff the first week you bring them home ensures you get off on the right foot — or paw, if you will. If you want your puppy to get the best care, visit Western Shore Veterinary Hospital.
