THE DIGEST
Who is Michael Borgschulte, the New Naval Academy Superintendent?
When Marine Lt. Gen. Michael Borgschulte was sworn in as the Naval Academy’s new superintendent on Friday, Naval Secretary John Phelan called him “a military hybrid of modern tactics and ancient attitudes.” Here are a few more key points about Annapolis’s newest resident from the Baltimore Banner.
Borgschulte graduated from the Naval Academy in 1991 with a bachelor of science in oceanography. He went on to master in national security and strategic studies at the Naval War College
Borgschulte was a mean lookin’ starting linebacker for the Midshipmen (#38 below)
Borgschulte had a decorated career as an A-1 attack helicopter pilot, logging more than 700 combat hours and thousands overall.
Borgschulte met his wife, Gitte, in Copenhagen, Denmark. She became a U.S. citizen and is an internist practicing in northern Virginia. The couple have two well-dressed teenaged sons.
Borgschulte testified on Capitol Hill last April to advocate for raising compensation for workers at military child care centers.
AACC Raises Class Minimums to 15 Students
Most college students love when class is canceled. That’s not so here. Anne Arundel Community College just raised its minimum class size from 12 to 15, upsetting students and faculty who fear widespread cancellations just before the semester starts. The new threshold exceeds Howard Community College’s minimum of eight, while some other nearby community colleges don’t set minimums.
An online petition with 770+ signatures argues the change will reduce degree options, delay graduation, and hurt smaller-class majors. College officials say cancellations are routine, though the college has already cut 9% of classes this year. ($)

New Mexican Ice Cream Parlor Coming to Annapolis
It’s been over a year since Roly Poly’s closed in the Admiral’s Court shopping center, and we finally have exciting news to share about the new tenants. Brothers Ricardo and Juan Flores are bringing LaMichoacana Plus, a Mexican dessert parlor, to the Bestgate corridor. If you’ve never been to a LaMichoacana, the ice cream shop-slash-snack destination offers everything for your sweet tooth, with authentic ingredients and flavors. We expect to be eating horchata ice cream by October. And of course, we’ll keep you updated on that timeline.

Six Things to Teach Your Kids About Money
It’s never too early to teach your children about money. Starting them off on the right financial foot may be one of the best things you can do for them. Scarborough helps clients every day with their financial planning needs. Many client situations are complex – there’s no “one-size-fits-all” solution.
Follow these six lessons if you want to help teach a young person solid financial basics:
1. Pay yourself first.
2. Save early, save often.
3. Pay off your credit card every month.
4. Delay gratification.
5. Buy whatever kind of car you want, but get a good, used one.
6. Invest in yourself.
There are several ways to begin the conversation with kids about money and get them started on their way to better financial habits. And while getting them to eat their greens might be a struggle, hopefully, the ideas above will make discussions about money a little easier. Contact Scarborough Capital Management to see how we can help.
