THE DIGEST
CRAB and CBF shell-ebrate conservation 🦪
Enjoying the local waterways is always great. Preserving the local waterways so they can be enjoyed for years to come is even better. That’s why CRAB (Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating) and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation teamed up recently to install an oyster garden in CRAB’s state-of-the-art Arthur and Patricia Edwards Family Marina. Once the oysters are grown, they can be planted on reefs from Baltimore to the southern Eastern Shore.
🔎 Did you know: An adult oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water per day. Last year, Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s 245 oyster gardens grew 1,608,358 oysters. NOAA reports there are about 19 trillion gallons of water in the Chesapeake Bay, so there’s still a lot of work to do!
Congrats, National Merit semifinalists! 🎉
Anne Arundel County Public Schools has 5 students advancing in the competition for National Merit Scholarship. The semifinalists, who are among 1,600 students nationwide, include:
✏️ Daniel Garrett — Arundel High School
✏️ Benjamin Elliffe — Severna Park High School
✏️ Abbie Heath — Severna Park High School
✏️ Peter Judge — Severna Park High School
✏️ Nikita Mehta — South River High School
Semifinalists will be adjudicated based on grades, SATs, principal recommendation, and activities. Finalists will be announced in February.
