Today’s the Day! The Annapolis Powerboat Show is finally here

And with it, long-awaited fantastic weather! Now, what can you expect at the Boat Show? Let me show you.

  • Over 400 Power Boats from 14–72 feet long

  • 319 Service Exhibitors (boat repair, electronics, financing, etc.)

  • 389 Product Exhibitors (anchors, binoculars, clothes, etc.)

  • A demo dock to try before you buy

Masterworks I: An Exhilarating Launch to the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra’s 63rd Season

Music loving Scoop readers, you’re in for a treat. On October 4, 5, and 6, the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra opens its 63rd season with a bold and vibrant selection, made possible by the Brian and Patricia Giese Foundation.

It starts with Latin rhythms and sultry Caribbean beats from Pulitzer Prize winner and Kennedy Center Honors recipient Tania León.

The excitement continues with a tribute to ASO’s Artistic Director and Conductor Joe-Luis Novo’s 20th year at ASO. World-renowned pianist (and former Annapolitan) Brian Ganz will perform Mozart’s groundbreaking Piano Concerto No. 23.

Classical music lovers will then enjoy Bruckner’s 200th powerful Symphony No. 3.

And to close, William Grant Still’s Afro-American Symphony – a rich tapestry of African-American musical heritage blending jazz, blues, and spirituals.

Weekend preview 🗓

The weather is looking as if it’s going to be 🤩beautiful🤩 this weekend, so why spend it cooped up in the house? Here are 8 reasons to get out and about:

🧟‍♀️ Teens get to create their own zombie dolls for spooky season at AACPL’s Return of the Zombie Dolls on Saturday 2–4 PM at the Severna Park Branch.

🎃 Find the perfect pumpkin while supporting efforts to fight homelessness and the Light House Pumpkin Patch Thursdays/Fridays 2–6 PM and Saturdays/Sundays 10 AM–6 PM at St. Martin’s Lutheran School of Annapolis (1120 Spa Road, Annapolis).

🌮 Enjoy some high-quality Mexican fare and party it up with ‘90s entertainers at the Tacos & Tequila Music Fest on Saturday 3 PM at Prince George’s Stadium (4101 Crain Highway, Bowie).

👻 Historic Annapolis and Watermark Journeys are teaming up for Special Historic Hauntings ghost tours Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM throughout the month, departing from 188 Main Street, Annapolis.

🏳️‍🌈 Be there for the first of the quarterly Outside Dance Party, an inclusive event with house party vibes at AND Creative Studio, on Friday 8–11:30 PM.

🚤 The much-anticipated Power Boat Show is this weekend, running 10 AM–6 PM today through Saturday and 10 AM–5 PM on Sunday, where you can check out the best in boats, boat accessories, equipment, and apparel.

🌳 Learn about planting perennials, shrubs, and trees at Homestead Gardens’ Garden Chores + Coffee at 10 AM Friday at the Davidsonville location and 10 AM Saturday at the Severna Park location.

🍁 Homestead Gardens continues its ever-popular Fall Festival Weekends this Saturday and Sunday 10 AM–4 PM at the Davidsonville location. (Can’t make it? Fall Festival Weekends continue through October 27.)

Schooner Woodwind is only cruising one time this weekend and there’s a special guest

If you like history and water, here’s the number one event for your calendar this weekend. Local author David Gendell is hosting a 3-hour tour (a 3-hour tour 🎶 ) to the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse on Saturday. Sailing to the lighthouse with Dave is always a treat because he literally wrote the book about it (the only book). He even showed the late Jimmy Buffett around it a few years back.

The cruise departs at 10 AM from Annapolis City Marina. Drinks will be sold onboard and you can bring your own lunch! Secure your seat.

First Sundays Arts Festival 🎨 🎵

PSA: There’s only two First Sunday Arts Festivals left this year. October 6 is looking like the Goldilocks of festivals. Meaning, it should be the perfect weather (finally!) for shopping over 100 vendors or café dining along West Street in downtown Annapolis. Enjoy live entertainment from:

Enjoy pumpkin picking/decorating, spooky arts & crafts, face painting, and a costume contest. Groove to the DJ, grab bites from food trucks, and sip from the Vintage Views Mobile Bar. Listen: Unbeaten Navy heads to CO for service academy showdown

On this weekend’s Anchors Aweigh Podcast, Navy athletics insiders Bill Wagner and Pete Medhurst break down Navy football’s blowout of UAB and look ahead to Saturday’s showdown against Air Force (1-3). And during the interview segment, Bill and Pete chat with Coach Gavin Hickie from men’s rugby, which routed archrival Army in last week’s Star Match. It’s a 37-minute listen.

Navy vs. Air Force 🏈

The Mids are headed to Colorado Springs, Colorado, this weekend for the first leg of the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy. That’s the competition among the nation’s three service academies (Navy, Army, and Air Force) for the title and the honor of visiting the White House in the spring. Navy plays against Air Force on Saturday starting at noon Eastern at Falcon Stadium, and there will be a livestream via CBS.
