THE DIGEST
Get your tix for the Rotary Crab Feast 🦀
Pass the Old Bay, this Crab Feast is 80. The Annapolis Rotary Club’s signature event, now in its 80th year, draws over 1,000 crab crackin’ guests every summer. It’s said to be the largest crab feast in the world. And it’s coming up on August 1 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Tickets go on sale this weekend with early bird pricing, which gets you access to all-you-can-eat crabs and barbecue, corn on the cob, and other Maryland favorites. All proceeds support local nonprofits and charities through the Rotary’s grant program. So set a reminder for Sunday and get your tickets.
P.S. Craving your claws in comfort? Let’s talk perks. Reserved seating ($125 individual/$1,500 table) is self-explanatory but you also get to enter through a special gate. And for the real top-shelf option, there’s VIP $180 individual/$1,800 table) with a private dining area, table service, and wine.
2025 Annapolis to Newport Race ⛵
The unfortunate fact about sailboat racing is that not all races involve riding the rails, getting your hat blown off your head when the big puff hits. Some races involve reading your Kindle, or thinking about how water sometimes looks exactly like glass. In your spare time, you might write letters to race organizers advocating for the use of oars.
That’s a bit like how the Annapolis to Newport Race started this year. A dramatic storm system delayed the start and got everyone wet and stinky. Then race organizers were forced to delay again when the breeze refused to come back. When it finally did, 34 boats in three classes were sent down the Bay in conditions that might be called “whimpering,” with the majority of the fleet averaging between two and three knots overnight. However, once they crawled out of the Chesapeake, Atlantic breeze came through and the fleet began making its way up the seaboard.
As of press time, in first place overall is Temptation/Oakcliff, a speedy JV 66 with 20 crewmembers onboard. Temptation/Oakcliff is unique in that she’s part of the Oakcliff Sailing program, a training center aimed at developing the offshore sailing skills of American youth. Temptation/Oakcliff is skippered by Art Santry, who is sailing with a mixed crew of Oakcliff sailors, seasoned old salts, and sailing legend Gary Jobson. Hopefully, Gary had some inspirational stories from his days of America’s Cup racing to keep the kids hyped during the slogs.
You can track the whole fleet here, and keep track of your friends and rivals through results posted at YachtScoring.

A Financial Planning Tip All Federal Employees (and Military Personnel) Should Know
Employer-sponsored retirement plans are among the most useful financial tools for professionals. Private corporations may get the most attention, but members of the military and federal government employees have access to one of the strongest retirement plans around: The Thrift Savings Plan (TSP).
A TSP is different than your typical 401(k), so it’s wise to get TSP advice from a financial advisor that fully understands them. Scarborough Capital Management is one of these firms. We are located in Annapolis and have helped people with their TSPs for more than 30 years. If you have questions about your TSP, we can help.
