County Food Bank raises $140k+ during summer fundraiser

It’d be pretty cool if every dollar you had was worth $2, wouldn’t it? If you donated to the Anne Arundel County Food Bank last month, they were! For the third year in a row, Crosby Marketing matched July donations – up to $50k – which resulted in raising $142,630. The money will support the purchasing of lean meats, fresh produce, and baby formula which the food bank will distribute at 102 sites across the county. Between July 2022 and June 2023, those sites were visited 130,000 times which equates to 3.2 million meals.

Who won the Annapolis Summer Basketball League?

For just the second time in league history, a first-year team has won the Annapolis Summer League championship. And at its core, two men who were on the first team to do it – which only happened last year. Congratulations to Borden Insurance on a 67–62 championship victory over Harris & Sons – the most decorated team in summer league history. Camari Wilkerson scored 28 points and earned the title of MVP for the regular season and playoffs. Not bad for someone who’s just 5’9”. ($)

Carriages on West Street. August 13 (9 AM–1 PM). 85 Corvettes from 1953 to 2023 line inner West Street. Attendance is free and open to the public. All 85 display spots were claimed within 10 hours!

Naptown Scoop’s Third Anniversary Party. August 18 (6:30–9:30 PM). Scoop celebrates another year of the most-loved email newsletter in Annapolis. Only 5 tickets left!

Maryland Seafood Festival. August 19–20. Now at City Dock. Loads of seafood, local vendors, and a Crab Soup Cook-off. Tickets start at $15.

CRAB Cup. August 19. Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating’s largest fundraiser. The second race in the Triple Crown of Charity, a Poker Pursuit for powerboats, and the Shore Party at Eastport Yacht Club for everyone. Learn more.

Renaissance Festival. August 26–October 22. A Maryland tradition now in its 47th year. Bring cash, bring a costume, and bring your appetite – those turkey legs aren’t gonna eat themselves. Ticket sales are online only.

Annapolis Ten Mile Run. August 27. Ranked one of the top 10-mile races in the county by Runner’s World. First run in 1976 by 7 friends. Last run in 2023 by 2,500 friends. Registration starts at $90.

Traffic alert: Sign removal on Route 50

Crews will remove the Exit 31 (Whitehall Road) overhead sign above Route 50 eastbound at 9 PM Tuesday (8/8). In case you haven’t heard, Exit 31 has been permanently closed in hopes of easing local road bridge traffic so we don’t need the sign anymore. Both the right lane and right shoulder will be closed during this work.
