🏛️ Maryland is building a $15 million new supreme court building on Rowe Boulevard. Construction starts in August.
🪲 The infamous Home Paramount Pest Control billboard has been replaced with an ad about distracted driving at City Dock.
🌉 Maryland did a modern risk assessment showing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge does not meet acceptable risk thresholds for a ship strike. The same assessment would have showed the Key Bridge had 30 times the acceptable risk.

Truxtun Skate Park Reopens with Fresh Features and a Whole Lotta Heart 🛹🌲💛

After five months of grinding (and we don’t mean on rails), the Truxtun Park Skate Park is officially open. Designed with the help of locals and built by skate park legends Artisan Skate Parks, the park now flows like a dream — no fences, just forest vibes. It was rebuilt in memory of skater Tameron Barish. The grand opening’s set for June 7 with demos, giveaways, and big community energy. Bring your board.

Navy Boxing knocks out the competition 🥊 🏆

Navy’s fearsome fighters have held on to the National Collegiate Boxing Association’s national championship, putting up five individual champions and three third-place finishers. Navy came in 20 points above first runner up, Cincinnati, securing their seventh national championship (and second consecutive). “We had a really strong senior class that led the way by being totally committed and dedicated all year long,” first-year Navy boxing coach Blake Baldi told the Capital Gazette. “They did everything we asked as a coaching staff in terms of eating right, sleeping right, taking care of their bodies, conditioning hard and training hard.” Hard work pays off. Go Navy! ($)

McGill is majoring in Chinese, and upon graduation he will report to Pensacola, FL, to begin flight training.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Foodie Friday: Lauren’s farm-to-table faves 🐔🥚

Fresh is the best. Since my husband won’t let me have a chicken coop, here are my farm-to-table faves in Annapolis. This is Lauren, btw. 👋

Metropolitan Kitchen & Lounge | 175 West St. | As luck would have it, I’m having dinner with gal pals this weekend at Metropolitan. I’m going to beg that we order the always-delicious Golden Brussels, Fig and Goat Cheese Flatbread, Tuna Poke, and Truffle Gnocchi.

True Food Kitchen | 1906 Towne Centre Blvd, Suite 110 | Call me basic, but I love a good pick two — or in True Food Kitchen’s case, a “TrueTrio”. It’s a salad + soup + drink; or wrap + salad or soup + drink. Next time, I’m getting the Chopped Salad, Grilled Chicken Ranch Wrap, and Peach Lemonade. This lunch special is dine-in only and costs $19.50.

The Lodge Annapolis | 177 Jennifer Rd | I haven’t tried “Late Night Eats” (available from 9–11 PM during the week and until 1:30 AM on Fridays/Saturdays). But if I find myself out past 9 PM, bring on the Fried Green Tomatoes and Old Bay Wings. For now, I’m sticking with brunch. Their farm-fresh egg station with made-to-order omelets and farm fresh fruit makes me imagine, just for a moment, that I actually live on a farm.

Spring is in the air 🍀

You know that neighbor who had the perfect green lawn last summer? They started preparing for that in spring, likely with Lawn Doctor. Let me explain.

During winter, grass growth slows significantly, and some types even go dormant due to the cold. This can leave your lawn vulnerable to weeds, thinning, and stress damage. A well-timed spring treatment with essential nutrients, pre-emergent, and weed control helps strength the grass, promote healthy lawn growth, and prepare it for the warmer months ahead!

And their expertise doesn’t stop there. They’ll even give you mowing techniques so your grass will be the envy of the neighborhood all summer long. Get your free quote today and check out their newsletter to learn more!

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

Spring Sailboat Show Q&A

There’s something about seeing all the masts and flags in Ego Alley that just makes us happy. The Spring Sailboat Show is cruising into town today, pulling in the beautiful weather and dark n’ stormies to boot. We found Boat Show insider Mary Ewenson, founder of SpinSheet Magazine and the EWE Spirit Foundation, to give us the skinny.

What’s makes the Spring Sailboat Show different? With new and used boats, seminars, and live music, it’s a laid-back way to experience the sailing lifestyle for the day.

How will City Dock construction impact the show? We’ve moved the show from Susan Campbell Park to City Dock, which brings the show and the sailboats closer to the action of downtown Annapolis. You’ll see the masts and flags from all the way up Main Street.

If you’ve never been to the Boat Show before, what should you know? Pick up a copy of the Show Guide on your way into the Show. Plan on climbing aboard all the boats on display. Wear shoes you can slip on and off. We have three full days of seminars focused on everything from sailing with kids, getting into racing, fishing from a sailboat, to adventure racing in the Everglades.

If you’re coming to the Show with little kids, what kinds of activities are there? BoatUS has generously provided loaner life jackets, and we’ll have those at the gates for anyone who’d like to borrow them. Stop at the SpinSheet booth to pick a card for the EWE Spirit scavenger hunt. On Saturday afternoon, SpinSheet is hosting a panel discussion on sailing with kids.

What's on the menu? Thanks to the new location, both the Choptank Restaurant and Latitude 38 will be selling food and drinks inside the Show, and we’ll have local wine and spirit tastings in the all-new No Wake Zone. You’ll also find handmade desserts, coffee, kettle corn, and Rita’s Italian Ice.
