Shop Small Holiday Crawl, Broadneck in state championship, the Lodge is now open...

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. Big props to the Downtown Annapolis Partnership for adapting and overcoming at the Grand Illumination last night. Even though rain shorted out the tree lights, the total delay was less than 4 minutes. Big props to everyone who watched in the rain, too.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Shop Small Holiday Crawl

  • Broadneck makes state championship 🏈

  • A new restaurant

Let’s get to it.

Now that Thanksgiving is over. . . 🎄

It is finally acceptable to put up Christmas trees. If you’re like my family, it’s already up. But if you still need to get a tree (or refresh your trusty artificial one), here are 6 great local options — including one deliciously old-school farm where you can still cut your own. Check them out at the bottom of our Ultimate Holiday Guide.

A MESSAGE FROM CURRENT DERMATOLOGY

As we approach this season of gratitude and reflection, I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks to the entire Naptown Scoop Community. It has been a wonderful journey since we opened our doors at Current Dermatology & Cosmetic Center, and I am filled with gratitude for the trust and support many of you have shown us as your dermatology providers.

It is with great excitement that we wish to extend a warm invitation to the entire Naptown Scoop Community to our first Winter Open House at Current Dermatology on Wednesday, December 6th from 10 AM-6 PM. It's an opportunity for us to express our gratitude and share the spirit of the season. Whether you are a current or future patient, come to meet our providers, tour the office, and learn more about our practice and the amazing services we offer. As an added bonus, we are giving away a few of our favorite things as door prize raffles for those who attend. We look forward to seeing you!

Sincerely, Dr. Molly Walterhoefer

THE DIGEST

Broadneck heading to 4A state championship 🐻

The last time Broadneck football played in a state championship, not a single player on the current team was even alive. But thanks to a commanding 31–7 victory over Winston Churchill over the weekend, this Friday, under the lights at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, the Bruins are looking to win it all.

Their opponent, however, is a formidable one – Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School. Wise has won five 4A championships in the last 18 years. And even though they haven’t won since 2019, they’ve made the final four every year since. Let’s go Bruins. We’re rooting for you! ($)

The Lodge Annapolis is now open 🦌

Smashing Grapes is so out. The Lodge Annapolis is so in. Much like SPB Hospitality swapped Gordon Biersch for J. Alexander’s at Annapolis Town Center recently, Titan Hospitality just swapped Smashing Grapes for The Lodge at 177 Jennifer Road near Westfield Annapolis.

You may recognize the menu from Titan’s other Lodge, the Blackwall Barn and Lodge in Gambrills. As always, we’ll be trying it very soon to let you know what to expect. If you make it in before us, let us know how it is!

NAVY SPORTS

SMU dominates Navy but bowl eligibility isn’t hopeless

SMU showed why they’re #2 in the American Athletic Conference against Navy this weekend. The Mustangs routed Navy 59–14 and injured several key Midshipmen players. Quarterback Xavier Arline, wide receivers Regiz Velez, Jayden Umbarger and Colin O’Connor, slotback Fabian France, and outside linebacker Xavier McDonald all left the game with injuries.

The Mids can still earn bowl eligibility by beating Army in Foxborough on December 9. It’s unclear which of the injured players from last Saturday will be available for that game. ($)
