THE DIGEST
Naval Academy churns out another Rhodes Scholar
There must be something in the water at Bancroft Hall. As of Sunday, the Naval Academy had churned out 55 Rhodes Scholars. If you need a refresher, that’s the oldest (and perhaps most prestigious) international scholarship program in the world. Abigail Ward, a senior majoring in computer science and minoring in Chinese, just became USNA’s 56th Rhodes Scholar. Abigail is one of just 32 Americans to earn the honor and she happens to hail from right down the road in Pasadena.
Congrats Abigail! We hear Oxford is lovely in the fall 🇬🇧
One Last Goal for SP Girls Soccer ⚽️
The undefeated Severna Park girls beat River Hill 3–0 during the 3A state semifinal Friday night. The Falcons tallied goals from Sara Kreis, Abby Cover, and Sarah Stefancik. But there’s one more thing on the team’s to-do list. . .
Winning the program’s seventh state championship (and first since 2003) this Saturday (11/18) against Mount Hebron. The match is at Loyola University’s Ridley Athletic Complex at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $10 and will only be sold online. Keep an eye on this website to buy.
More ⚽ Just before the Falcons face Mt. Hebron, the South River Seahawks face Towson in the boys final. That match kicks off at 5 PM. The Seahawks upset #1 seed Howard 2–1 in overtime on Friday to advance.

LOCAL BUSINESS
Drink wine. Save the corks. Save the world 🍷
We may have oversimplified that. But Wednesday (11/15) is America Recycles Day and Annapolis Green and Green Bean Boutique want your corks. BYO old corks to Green Bean Boutique at Annapolis Town Center from 12–7 PM and they’ll recycle them through the recork Program. 1915 Towne Centre Blvd #120, Annapolis, MD 21401.
♻️👟 After you recycle your corks, you’ll get a sneak peek at the Made+ skiff shoe. Made+ is a new shoe company that launched in Annapolis in June. They make a planet-positive shoe from upcycled water bottles. Perfect for this national day of recycling!
Charm City Run preps for a short move
Just like not all runs have to be long, not all moves have to be far. After 16 years in Annapolis Town Center, Charm City Run is moving across the street to 87 Forest Plaza this winter. The new spot will have almost double the space at 4,000 square feet. For runners who can only think in mileage, the distance between the current and the new location is 0.2 miles. You’d have to run it 130 times to make a marathon 🏃♀️
National Apprenticeship Week
The system of apprenticeship started in the Middle Ages when expert craftsmen hired young wannabes in exchange for food and training. We’ve come a long way since then (and added some labor laws) but apprenticeship is still awesome. This week is National Apprenticeship Week and the county’s Workforce Development Corporation is hosting several events to celebrate. Check it out.

CIVIL NEWS
Survey says. . . 🗳️
County residents are worried about crime and the economy. At least the 586 who took a recent poll to share their top concerns. 36% ranked crime as a major concern and 23% listed economic issues. The quick read:
Crime: Concern about public safety aligns with an uptick of crime in Annapolis. Crime has ranked high in surveys over the last year, but this poll shows the highest ranking yet.
Economy: Concern about the economy dropped slightly but recent surveys still noted concerns about rising inflation and food & gas prices.
