Your Trader Joe’s cookies might have rocks in them

Did you say, “I’ll start my diet next week” and still grab some cookies at Trader Joe’s last week? Specifically the Almond Windmill Cookies or Dark Chocolate Chunk and Almond Cookies? If so, the diet starts now. TJ’s has recalled those cookies because they “may contain rocks.” And since trips to the orthodontist cost even more than a Taylor Swift concert ticket, if you did buy said cookies, either toss ‘em or take ‘em back to TJ’s for a full refund.

Buckley says he’ll waive fees to save nonprofit sports teams

The Truxtun Park Penguins didn’t pay to rent lanes at Truxtun Park’s pool under Annapolis’ prior Director of Recreation and Parks. But under new leadership that took over in March, the Penguins were going to be on the hook for $22,000. Similarly, the Annapolis All-Stars nonprofit youth football team was on pace for $13,810 in field fees. Neither group’s numbers would pencil if they had to pay. Mayor Buckley intended to waive the fees with legislation co-sponsored by Alderman DaJuan Gay but he pulled the ordinance this week and said he’d waive the fees with his executive power instead. ($)

Wednesday Night Races Series 3

The final series of Annapolis Yacht Club’s famous Wednesday Night Races starts tonight (7/26). It’s quite a spectacle to see almost 140 sailboats racing across 15 different classes (aka types of boats). The races start around 6 PM and the best places to watch include the Eastport Bridge, Schooner Woodwind, or the Skipjack Wilma Lee.

Tides and Tunes: John Frase Project returns

Looking for something to do on what’s going to be a scorching Thursday? Head to Eastport for the Annapolis Maritime Museum’s ever-popular concert series, Tides and Tunes. The City of Annapolis Task Force to the City Municipal Elections launched a survey to ask city residents how Annapolis can improve its elections. The all-volunteer group will review your input to prepare a report for City Council this fall. Registered voters are asked to take the 10-question survey before August 11.
