Buy Local Week: Wild Country Seafood 🦀 🦪 🍤

We’re back with Day ✌️ of Buy Local Week* and this one is for the seafood lovers: Wild Country Seafood. Owner Pat Mahoney, who grew up on Eastport’s waters is bringing back that old crab shack feel, and we’re here for it! He and father Pat Sr. (a waterman for 40 years) started an old-fashioned seafood store in Maritime Eastport like old Saddler’s, where Pat Sr. grew up working.

Located behind the Maritime Museum (where McNasby’s used to be) at 124 Bay Shore Ave in Annapolis, Wild Country Seafood has fresh crabs, shrimp, clams, oysters, mussels, scallops, and more on their menu. Their party platters will even make you want to have an impromptu party, so you have a reason to order one of their crab ball, shrimp, oyster, or combo platters. Hours of operation are Wednesdays and Thursdays, 3–7 PM; Fridays and Saturdays, 11 AM–7 PM; and Sundays, 11 AM–5 PM.

*What’s Buy Local Week? A statewide initiative (July 18–28 this year) that’s all all about encouraging Marylanders to incorporate at least one locally grown, produced, or harvested product into their meals each day.

THE DIGEST

School zone speed cameras 🚨

Drivers, here are five more reasons to slow down when you’re out there on the road — besides, you know, safety. Anne Arundel County is installing five school zone speed cameras that go live tomorrow. Locations include:

🚙 Annapolis Area Christian School (Middle School) — Bestgate Road, Annapolis
🚙 Folger McKinsey Elementary — Arundel Beach Road, Severna Park
🚙 Key School — Hillsmere Drive, Annapolis
🚙 Odenton Elementary — Odenton Road, Odenton
🚙 Nantucket Elementary — Nantucket Drive, Crofton

So, how does it work? You’ve got a 15-day warning period — if the cameras catch you speeding during that time, you won’t get a citation. But after the 15-day window, anyone going 12 mph or more gets a $40 fine in the mail. These speed cameras are considered school zone cameras, so they’ll operate 6 AM–8 PM Mon–Fri, including holidays and summer.

Theater Talk Tuesday 🎭

A Midsummer Night’s Dream 2024
An enchanted forest, fairies, mischief, and a guy with a donkey head . . . what’s not to like in this classic rom com from that old rascal, Shakespeare? Classic Theater of Maryland’s midsummer run of this production offers shows Thursdays–Sundays, July 11-28. We know this production will be dreamy in CTM’s expert hands.

The Talent Machine Co. Presents Young Frankenstein
The talented young stars of The Talent Machine Co. (ages 5–18) bring this Mel Brooks classic to life at the Pascal Center for Performing Arts at AACC. The production promises amazing dance numbers and laugh-out-loud comedy! The show opens this Friday, July 12 and runs through July 21.

CTM presents The Miser
Classic theater feels a lot more approachable (and delicious) when it’s performed in the outdoor courtyard at Reynolds Tavern, as Classic Theatre of Maryland does every year. This time around it’s The Miser, Moliere’s comedy about a nasty miser and his household trying to get one over on him. See it tonight at 7:30 PM or any Tuesday throughout July and August (except July 16 & August 20).
