Good morning, Annapolis, and happy International Bat Appreciation Day. The nocturnal kind, not the baseball kind. 🦇

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Walk for the Animals

  • Pearl is now open

  • Navy Boxing at the National Championships

Let’s get to it.

Your dream home by the water 🌊

Annapolis’ housing market is in an interesting position. There’s less inventory but prices have dropped from last year. As everybody knows inventory is at a record low and it’s extremely rare for a new custom home to hit the market like this fabulous new offering on Bear Neck Creek.

It’s a recently constructed Craftsman-style home on just about half an acre. 4 generous bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms spread across a spacious open floor plan that maximize the waterfront location. There’s even a storage room with roughed-in plumbing that could easily be converted into a fifth bedroom.

There’s also a stunning kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, screened porch with a gas fireplace, and a 3-car garage. Outside, you’ll enjoy a private pier, lovely shaded backyard, and serene creek views. For boaters, Bear Neck Creek is a perfect home base; there are great adventures to be had on local waterways and you have the whole Chesapeake Bay.

THE DIGEST

We’re hiring an intern for the Best Summer Ever

I realize that’s a bold claim but hear me out. Is there a better way for a college student to spend summer in Annapolis than working on boats and attending all the hottest social events? Didn’t think so.

We need a social media intern. North Point Yacht Sales needs a videographer. Now there’s no guarantee we’ll hire the same person but that’s the idea because the workload will be just right.

So if you’re a college student reading this and you’re an absolute whiz on social media, check out this unconventional job description. And in the more likely scenario that you’re the proud parent of a college student who’s a whiz on social media, send this to your kid. We’re also totally down for a Robert De Niro/Anne Hathaway kinda thing so if you’re retired and know Instagram Reels aren’t pictures taken while fishing, you can also check out the JD.

Dude, you’re getting a scholarship!

The Dell Scholar Program just named three AACPS students among the recipients of its scholarship this year, which comprises $20,000 along with a Dell laptop and printer. Congrats to:

💻️ Jaydy Mayancela-Chimborazo, Annapolis High School
💻️ Ali Shaalan, North County High School
💻️ Cheyenne Reid, Southern High School

All three recipients are part of AACPS’ AVID program (Advancement Via Individual Determination), which empowers students in the “academic middle” to build the skills they need for college and career success.

LOCAL BUSINESS

AA County’s first exclusively lab grown jewelry store 👩‍🔬 💎

If diamonds are a girl’s best friend, they’re often a boy’s worst nightmare. Have you seen those prices? Until now. Meet Bloomstone Jewelers – the only exclusively lab grown diamond and jewelry store in Anne Arundel County, and one of the few in the nation.

Lab-grown diamonds are priced based on growth conditions, allowing for incremental price increases instead of exponential ones. And they’re chemically, physically, and optically the same as mined diamonds. Even major fashion houses like Prada are joining the trend.

Bloomstone Jewelers Owner and diamond expert Constance Polamalu knows jewelry. She’s also COO at downtown Annapolis icon Zachary’s Jewelers and founder of Birthright Foundry. Her designs have been featured in Esquire and worn by Lizzo! She’ll continue to be a part of all 3 businesses.

The cozy store at Annapolis Harbour Center (2548 Solomons Island Rd) is hosting its Grand Opening this Friday (4/19) at noon. And because Constance is a gem herself, she’s offering Naptown Scoop subscribers a 10% discount on anything at Bloomstone Jewelers through the end of April! Use code: Nap10Scoop online or show this article in the store.

Pearl is now open

When we hear the word “pearl,” we usually think of hidden treasure inside an oyster shell. That feels appropriate for Pearl, the newly opened prize of a restaurant in the heart of downtown Annapolis. Its extensive menu promises “familiar dishes prepared through a global lens.” Be sure to stop by to try for yourself — and if you’re interested in joining the team, they’re still hiring! 26 Market Space, Annapolis, MD 21401.

Bitty & Beau’s is Back ☕️

The latest business to recover from the historic flooding downtown Annapolis saw in January is Bitty & Beau’s Coffee. Stop by for your caffeine fix and I all but guarantee you’ll leave feeling better than when you dropped in — 124 Dock Street, Annapolis, MD 21401.

Thanks for 10 great years! 🎉

Hey, Annapolis. Marianne Bailey here, owner of Western Shore Veterinary Hospital. What you might not know is I also own Queenstown Veterinary Hospital on the Eastern Shore. April is a big month for me- I'm celebrating 10 years in Queenstown, 1 year since we opened our doors at Western Shore Vet and a milestone birthday!

So much has happened in the last 10 years – a new building in Queenstown, a global pandemic (and the ensuing puppy boom), a second location and even a few new kids in my house.

Thanks for 10 amazing years of small business ownership. Here’s to the next 10! And btw, we’re always taking new patients :)

Sincerely,
Dr. Marianne Bailey

Jerrick Hall gets promoted at Navy 🏈

Congrats to Coach Jerrick Hall! He’s been with Navy for almost 6 years as defensive line coach, but this season, he’ll have a new role on the sidelines. Jerrick’s now also the defensive running game coordinator.

Both Navy’s men’s and women’s boxers fought well at the National Collegiate Boxing Association National Championship in Charlotte, NC last weekend. The men won the tournament, beating out Army and Air Force. The women tied for second with Air Force while Army took the win. Congratulations to Navy’s individual winners Erin Nicastro, Jordan Trantham, Ethan Stern, and Steve Brunache!

Long story, short: If you want to be good at boxing, go to a service academy 🥊
