🛥️ 5 Tips for Getting on a Boat at the Boat Show: Part of the fun of attending the Annapolis Powerboat Show (October 3–6) is getting on ALL the boats. Mary Ewenson from the Annapolis Boat Show team shared what showgoers should expect and some common faux pas to avoid. Cruise through her tips in the Naptown Scoop Journal.
🤝 Annapolis Mall sold (for real this time): Four investors bought Annapolis Mall: Centennial, a Texas-based retail real estate investment firm; Sandeep Mathrani, former CEO of GGP (once the second-largest US mall operator); Waterfall Asset Management, an investment firm focused on specialty finance; and Lincoln Property Company, one of the largest privately held real estate firms in the US. Two new tenants are coming next winter: Dave & Buster’s and DICK’S House of Sport.
⚓️ Annapolis Maritime Museum expands: The Annapolis Maritime Museum (AMM) is acquiring the Weems & Plath building, a 10,000-square-foot facility. Early next year, AMM will convert 1,800 sq ft for their expanding collections, archives, and library. The museum plans to explore new exhibits, a boat-building workshop, and other programming.
Harry Huntley joins City Council
Ward 1 has a new alderman! After Eleanor Tierney stepped down from the position at the beginning of the month to move out of state, the Annapolis Democratic Central Committee held a virtual candidate forum and selected Baltimore native and current Dean Street resident Harry Huntley from among five candidates to serve out the rest of Tierney’s term. Huntley has confirmed he will run for a full term in 2025. He will be sworn in as Ward 1 Alderman as part of the monthly City Council meeting on Monday evening (9/9).
Book launch: Cooking Maryland’s Way 🥘
When you think of Maryland cuisine, what comes to mind? The thing is, Maryland cuisine might be a lot more diverse than a lot of us realize. In her new book, Cooking Maryland’s Way: Voices of a Diverse Cuisine, food historian Joyce M. White explores all the influences on what our state has eaten over the centuries, from Indigenous Americans to African Americans to English and German food. Learn a few more Maryland foodie facts at the official book launch with White on September 8 from 1–4 PM at the Hammond Harwood House. Get info.

Where were we Wednesday? 📸
ANSWER:
Ok, here’s the good news – we finally found a pic that stumped everyone. Here’s the better news – the Maryland Renaissance Festival is still going on for 7 more weekends! For the record, we gave the clue this week that pics may come from Annapolis “and surrounding areas.” So you’ll find this beauty of a fountain, surrounded by a great turkey-leg-eating rest stop near Boar’s Head Tavern in the MDRF grounds. Thanks again to MDRF for letting us visit pre-season and snap this pic.
Thanks for playing and congrats to @spikelong for giving it your best guess 😃.

Ever wondered if a lab-grown diamond is a real diamond?
It's easier than you think! Just like a flower grown in a greenhouse is still a flower, a lab-grown diamond is 100% a diamond. Unlike look-alikes like moissanite or cubic zirconia (think paper or silk flowers), lab-grown diamonds are the real deal—chemically, physically, and optically as natural diamonds.
These dazzling gems are modern marvels built to shine for a lifetime and beyond! ✨ Whether you’re starting a new chapter or adding sparkle to a favorite one, Bloomstone Jewelers is thrilled to help you discover the brilliance of lab-grown diamonds.
WHAT’S HAPPENIN’
You might say this party is the GOAT. 🐐 Join Navy Athletics for a block party tonight 5–8 PM at the downtown Annapolis Market Space for a full celebration. The indoor and outdoor party will be fun for the whole family, featuring live entertainment, tabletop giveaways and prizes, an interactive photo booth and a Bill the Goat mascot appearance! The event will also feature Guinness beer specials and ripple machines (it makes a design on the top of your drink 😄).
1 week: Annapolis Songwriters Festival 🎸
We’re counting down to the 3rd year of a major local event for music lovers: the Annapolis Songwriters Festival, set for next Thursday through Sunday at venues throughout the downtown area. A full schedule running all day and all evening, even into the early morning hours, features performances by artists representing big name and emerging artists (seriously, there are a lot of them, and we bet you recognize quite a few). Stop by and see a few performances, or make a weekend out of seeing as many as you can! Get tickets. 🎶

⚾ The Orioles are looking pretty 🔥 and Park Tavern in Severna Park is featuring a new Crush of the Month to anticipate their postseason playoff dreams. The Orioles Magic crush is a handcrafted cocktail made with Tangerine New Amsterdam Vodka, Whipped Vodka, fresh squeezed orange juice, and a splash of lemon-lime soda. This grand slam crush is on offer all this month and only $6 every Wednesday. ($)
🎪 Celebrate fall favorite flavors with Lures Bar & Grill this weekend, Sept 6–8, with their Fall Fair Fest. They’ll be featuring carnival-inspired bites, nostalgic treats, and fall flavored brews. The huge specials menu looks fun-believable! Here are just a few of the creative fall treats to try: Churro Martini, Funnel Cake Fries, House-made Corndog, Downeast Cider Donut (cider), Pig Nachos, Crab Cake Waffle Cone, and much more!
🎀 If you’re wanting to try something new this weekend, like really new, don’t forget Timber Pizza (192 West St) and Urbano (1915 Towne Center Blvd) just celebrated their grand openings this week!
The Maryland Corn Maze (Taylor’s Version) 🎸
Listen up Swifties. Starting September 14, the Maryland Corn Maze is in its Taylor Swift era. The Gambrills-based maze (located on the U.S. Naval Academy Dairy Farm) features T Swift symbols like her lucky #13, the friendship bracelets often traded at her shows, a guitar, and her iconic heart hands. Mark your calendar for October 2, 5–7 PM, when the cover band, Kanin Wren’s Taylor Swift Experience, performs.
This year, visitors can use their phone’s GPS if they get lost, which is great because games are scattered throughout the maze. There’s also a hayride, petting farm, paintball course, pumpkin patch, zipline course, and pony rides. Get tickets for Saturdays and Sundays until November 3 (bonus Fridays: October 18 and November 1). Parking is $5 or free with 3+ in the car. ($)
Nothing in this section is sponsored. They're just the things you need to know. I'll always let you know when something's sponsored.

On this week’s episode of the Anchors Aweigh podcast, hosts Pete Medhurst and Bill Wagner are talking with head coach Paco Labrador and senior libero Hannah Hoover about the Kristen Dickmann Invitational at Wesley Brown Fieldhouse and the tribute the game pays to the fallen former Navy volleyball player it’s named for. Meanwhile, Navy football opened the season with a blowout of Bucknell, and Pete and Bill have high praise for the Wing-T offense that debuted in impressive fashion. Listen now.
