A MESSAGE FROM ST. ANNEā€™S SCHOOL

"The planet desperately needs more peacekeepers..." - Dalai Lama

At St. Anneā€™s School, our social curriculum is just as important as our academic curriculum. While each student is challenged academically by teachers who provide individualized instruction, what sets our program apart is how we approach studentsā€™ social development. Students are encouraged and nurtured to think, learn, listen, hypothesize, collaborate, self-regulate, and mediate. Yes, mediate. Here, our Lower School students are trained as Peacemakers, a long-standing St. Anneā€™s School program where students learn and practice on-the-ground conflict resolution and friendship initiatives that mirror mediation and peace initiatives currently taking place in the local, national, and global arenas.

During this holiday season, St. Anneā€™s School sends warm wishes for Peace on Earth, beginning with our very own Peacemakers.

Rogue streetlights are turning purple

Are you seeing purple streetlights? The Ravens are having a great season and BGE is headquartered in Baltimore but this is not the #RavensFlock taking over. BGE says a manufacturing defect is causing some LED streetlights to turn purple or blue. And while a little color is fun, itā€™s also kinda weird and BGE wants to fix it. Report purple streetlights here and BGE will bring back that classic streetlight glow you know and love.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Holly Jolly Hideaway closes early

Bad news, ya filthy animals. Annapolis Town Centerā€™s Holly Jolly Hideaway is closing early. Long story short, it was too popular and strained ATCā€™s facilities. To everyone who worked super hard to make it amazing, thanks for the memories. Since it was in the same building, Santaā€™s Cottage is moving to another space on the other side of the Town Center.

There is good news though. Annapolis Town Center did say, ā€œWe're already working to enhance and expand our experiential events in the future.ā€ And who knows, some of those events could be co-hosted with Naptown Scoop. . . šŸ•Æļø

When is Chessieā€™s Wharf opening?

The Eastern Shoreā€™s much-loved RaR Brewing is about to be Annapolisā€™ much-loved RaR Brewing. Chessieā€™s Wharf in West Annapolis, RaRā€™s first location outside of Cambridge, is oh-so-close to being done. And I hope youā€™re not doing dry January because this place looks stellar. Chessieā€™s Wharf is located at 609 Melvin Ave, Annapolis, MD 21401.

WHATā€™S HAPPENINā€™

Midnight Madness Round 2 šŸ„Š šŸ›ļø

You might need an extra cup of coffee today. Maybe several. Because tonight is the second Midnight Madness in beautiful downtown Annapolis. Thatā€™s when all the shops stay open very late ā€“ midnight to be exact ā€“ for your holiday shopping needs. Many also have refreshments and beverages to keep you going. Btw, Parley Room has an excellent espresso martini that kept me wired right up until midnight last week.

All downtown shopping zones participate, from West Street to Maryland Avenue to City Dock.

And as some of you pointed out yesterday, yes, Midnight Madness is also a basketball thing but not in December and not in Annapolis. Letā€™s go shopping.

P.S. Parking in the Calvert Street garage is free after 6 PM and Annapolis is offering 2 free hours of commercial zone parking and 1 free hour in the Hillman Garage until New Yearā€™s Day. Use the code ParkDTA in the ParkMobile app to get the discounts.

CIVIL NEWS

City Council delays two ordinance proposals

If youā€™ve recently thought ā€œEh. . . Iā€™ll take care of that in the new year,ā€ youā€™re not alone. City Council delayed action on two ordinances this week. The first would establish a year-round liquor license for arts organizations. That decision is delayed until January. The second would ban gas-powered leaf blowers and place noise restrictions on boats within the city. City Council will reconsider that one in February. ($)

Longtime Navy assistant leaves for head coaching job

It was only a matter of time before Ashley Ingram became a head coach. In his 16 years at Navy, heā€™s had multiple offers. Former head coach Ken Niumatalolo and current coach Brian Newberry both promoted him to prevent him from leaving. But great assistant coaches never stay forever. Thatā€™s just college football.

After declining the same offer in 2019, Ashley Ingram relented and is heading to Tennessee to be the head coach at the Division II Carson-Newman. He hopes to get Carson-Newman back to the dominance it enjoyed under Ken Sparks. During Sparksā€™ 36-year tenure, Carson-Newman had an incredible record of 338-99-2. ($)
