TOGETHER WITH
Brad Kappel key and anchor logo

Good morning, Annapolis. There’s a Harry S. Truman quote in today’s newsletter so here’s another one we try to embody here at Scoop: “Never use two words when one will do best.”

Let’s get to it.

P.S. Happy birthday to Jean “Jelly Bean” Gough

If you want to sell this coming Spring the time to call Brad is now. He’ll make a comprehensive plan to get Top Dollar for your home.

THE DIGEST

AACPS Teacher of the Year up for the statewide award

Mary Kay Connerton (left) at the AACPS Teacher of the Year awards

Annapolis High School’s own Mary Kay Connerton is headed to the big leagues. In April, Mary Kay was named AACPS Teacher of the Year. She now joins seven finalists in Maryland’s Teacher of the Year contest. Only 4 AACPS teachers have won since 1986. We’ll hear the results on October 13. We’re cheering for you, Mary Kay!

Mary Kay teaches physical education, health, and wellness at Annapolis High School but her impact is much bigger than that. Students all through the county use the Stretch Your Wellness program she created at Annapolis High.

LOCAL BUSINESS

For sale: Reynolds Tavern

Love old (like super old) houses and Georgian architecture? Always wanted a pub in your basement? Yes to both? Just one more question.

Got $4.7 million to spare?

If so, here’s your chance to own the Reynolds Tavern building. Hyatt Commercial recently acquired the listing of the Annapolis landmark at 7 Church Circle. Price tag? $4.775 million.

Although the building is for sale, 1747 Pub and Reynolds Tavern will stay in place thanks to pre-existing leases.

Hyatt Commercial’s Justin Mullen, Cecil Cummins, and John Gallagher will broker the sale. Once they close, may I suggest a pint in one of the nation’s oldest taverns? 🍻

Comeback kid

It’s been 742 days since a tornado ripped the roof off Chris’s Charcoal Pit on West Street. The much-loved joint has been closed ever since. But after every storm is a rainbow and this rainbow is delicious. Chris’s has reopened this week in a new location for carryout and delivery only. Dine-in will be back soon. Reunite with your favorite dish today at 3283 Solomon's Island Rd, Edgewater MD 21037.

Connecting to Nature

Why do we like to live on the water? Being around water has been proven to lower our stress, clear our minds for improved thinking, and bring peace and happiness to our lives. We are so fortunate to have one of nature’s finest water features in our own backyard and it’s called Chesapeake Bay.

If your current home leaves you feeling disconnected from the water, the birds, and all that nature has to offer, contact us and our in-house architectural design team can change that.

Creative Spaces is a Design-Build firm that specializes in Waterfront Homes in both major remodeling and custom homes.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

Storytime at Annapolis Town Center

Start ‘em young. That’s the idea of 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, an initiative to get the littlest of kids into reading. This morning (9/13) at 9:30 AM, the Busch Annapolis Library staff is doing the reading for you. There will be stories, songs, and other activities. Bring a blanket or chair. Best for ages 0-5; learn more.

As Harry S. Truman said, “Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.”

Naptown Scoop’s second favorite fundraiser

Rock the Dock holds a special place in my heart. Back in 2021, it was my first fundraiser after starting Scoop. The first time I met Scoop readers in real life. And the Rotaract always supports an awesome nonprofit. This year it’s The Complete Player – a nonprofit equipping underserved youth to be tomorrow’s leaders. Rock the Dock is next Thursday (9/14) at the Annapolis Maritime Museum. Get your all-inclusive tickets for only $70. – Ryan Sneddon*
