A MESSAGE FROM CURRENT DERMATOLOGY

Introducing Tixel at Current Dermatology and Cosmetic Center

We are happy to introduce a new eyelid tightening treatment in our office, Tixel! Tixel uses advanced fractional thermal rejuvenation to target and treat a wide range of concerns around the eye. With the ability to treat the entire upper and lower eyelid safely and comfortably to the lash margin, this powerhouse treatment can address fine lines and wrinkles around the eye, eyelid laxity/hooding of the upper eyelid, and bags, puffiness, and sagging skin at the lower eyelid. By stimulating collagen production and promoting skin tightening, it delivers remarkable results in just a few sessions with minimal downtime. It is suitable for all skin types and can be done anytime of year.

THE DIGEST

Special Scoop discount for Movers & Shakers

Does watching someone who’s never danced in his life dance in front of hundreds of people for charity sound like fun? If so, you’re in luck. Movers & Shakers is next weekend and I (Scoop publisher Ryan) will be dancing a bachata routine with local dance instructor Barbara Bernstein. Maryland Hall has just let me know that this weekend only, you can enter the promo code SCOOP at checkout for 25% off your tickets. So what are you waiting for? Step to it! (See what I did there?)

Annapolis delegations heads for the Netherlands 🌷

Annapolis could learn a thing or two from the Netherlands. It’s great at preventing floods – as it should be with 50% of the country below sea level. It’s also great for bicyclists. That’s why Mayor Buckley, MD Secretary of Planning Rebecca Flora, and several City Council members are headed to The Hague for a resiliency tour. They’ll hear from urban planners about sustainability and preservation practices and hopefully bring home some good ideas for City Dock. There won’t be too many awkward hellos, though. A delegation from The Hague visited Annapolis to see how we mitigate flooding in October 2022.

Gavin, if y’all happen to make it to Amsterdam, we recommend Loulou Pizzabar. It’s like someone picked up Vin 909 and dropped it on a Dutch canal 💯

AACPS launches Bus Badge program

AACPS is piloting a “bus badge” program for 6 schools. It will give students ID cards with a chip to scan when they board and exit buses. The goal is to use data to increase safety and decrease emergency response times. The caveats: there’s no live-tracking, no personal information is shared, and no kid is turned away if they forget the card. Crofton schools are piloting the program first but it could be rolled out wider soon. ($)

Chris’s Charcoal Pit roars back

Chris’s Charcoal Pit was trying to slip back into the party unnoticed. In September, two years after a tornado ripped its roof off on West Street, the beloved restaurant quietly re-opened in Edgewater. But word-of-mouth travels fast (so does the smell of gyros) and Scoop’s story and a viral social media post didn’t help. Suddenly customers were lined up outside. Chris’s sold 3 weeks of food in 4 days and had to close the dine-in space.

Chris’s just opened its dining room again and the new location has more parking than ever. We can’t promise no line, but as one customer said, “I was waiting for you for two years. I can wait for two hours.” 3283 Solomon's Island road, Edgewater MD 21037. ($)

Guests will gather at the historic Charles Carroll House in “holiday cocktail” attire for an open bar, fresh-shucked oysters, “experiential food stations”, and dancing. Plus, you get an incredible view of the Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade on December 9 😉 Click here to grab tickets.

Publisher’s note: If I hadn’t just been asked to judge the parade, I’d totally have planned on watching it from here!

Housing Authority’s “troubled” report card

Much like me in high school, the Annapolis Housing Authority (HACA) just received a "troubled" report card. This grade from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development assesses HACA’s physical, financial, and management performance. HACA scored 43 out of 70 for fiscal year 2022. The good news is the score doesn’t include properties currently being redeveloped so we hope to see that rise for FY2023. ($)

SPORTS

It’s a Navy Sports weekend

Get ready Navy fans. Navy’s back at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium this weekend after a quick road trip to Philly. The Mids play a slightly favored UAB for the first time in team history. Kickoff is Saturday at 3:30 PM. Click here to get tickets.

If round balls are more your thing, the Veterans Classic doubleheader is Friday night at Alumni Hall. Tickets start at $25 and get you into both games – Duquesne vs. College of Charleston at 6 PM and Navy vs. Temple at 8:30 PM.

👦👧 Both of these events are great for kids!

P.S. Get ready for the weekend with the Anchors Aweigh Podcast – the only podcast entirely dedicated to Navy sports.

P.P.S. If you’re going to the Veterans Classic, you won’t be able to drive onto the Yard unless you have a DoD-approved ID card. There’s a free shuttle if you park at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium ($10). Don’t forget your regular ID!

Navy picks up PA’s best quarterback

One of the most common complaints about Navy’s football team is the passing. Not for long. Three-star Pennsylvania quarterback Alex Erby just committed to Navy over 15 other scholarship offers. The 6’3”, 210-pound southpaw holds PA state records for both career passing yards (12,727) and passing touchdowns (164). With his dad as the coach, Alex has led his high school to 2 state championships and is gearing up for a third.

The option isn’t going away though. And that’s fine with Alex. He said, “The only thing I care about is winning games. I don’t care if we throw the ball twice in the game.”($)
