Let’s get to it.

Seas the Day 🦪

Today marks the first anniversary of The Choptank in Annapolis! Being part of the Annapolis community has been nothing short of incredible. We are immensely grateful for every guest who passed through our doors.

From the day we opened, we've been humbled by the embrace of this beautiful community. Holiday weekends, Blue Angels shows, and plain old Naptown Nights – we've shared so many beautiful memories with you from Ego Alley.

And this is just the start. There are so many more good times to come at Annapolis’ famous city dock.

Annapolis, thank you so much for this amazing first year! We hope to enjoy oysters, cocktails, or cold ones with you again soon. Book a table at The Choptank and come celebrate with us.

THE DIGEST

Home conference final for Annapolis Blues

No one’s singing the Blues now 🎷🎹🎵 The Annapolis Blues beat Grove United 4–1 on Wednesday with over 7,000 fans in attendance. The conference final is Saturday against Alexandria Reds, who beat Greenville United in penalty kicks on Wednesday. 7 PM at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, individual tickets from $8.

Fun fact: Most NPSL teams have around 900 people at any given game. Our Blues, however, have over 7,000. Even on a Wednesday.

Final weekend for Annapolis Go

Quick reminder: this is the last weekend of operation for Annapolis Go. Come Monday (hey, Jimmy Buffett), you’ll be back to paying Uber prices.

⚠️ Reminder: Ramps closed near Bay Bridge

Don’t say we didn’t warn ya. As part of a pilot program to reduce traffic on side roads for residents, SHA will close exits 30 & 32 from 10 AM on Thursdays to 6 PM on Sundays. Last week, SHA permanently closed exit 31. Say it with me. . . side roads aren’t for skipping traffic.

CIVIL NEWS

🚩 School Board votes 4-3 to reject flag ban

The flags are here to stay. The Board of Education voted down a proposal on Wednesday to ban flags in county schools that don’t promote “national, state, and local government pride.” The final vote: 4 against, 3 for, 1 abstention. This concludes months of 🔥 discussion and 1,800+ public comments.

Short and sweet. Feel free to fill out if you think warranted. If it was less touchy I’d add something about “now we can fly our Scoop flag high” but eh, not worth rocking the boat.

County Council meeting

On the agenda for Monday’s County Council meeting:

  • How should cannabis growers, processors, and dispensaries be zoned?

  • How should solar energy-generating facilities be zoned?

  • See full agenda

The meeting is Monday at 7 PM at the Arundel Center. Use this website to submit testimony or watch online. 44 Calvert St, Annapolis, MD 21401.

New equity and human rights director

Anne Arundel’s motto (“The Best Place for All”) is more than a sign on Route 50. The county’s Office of Equity and Human Rights (OEHR) works to make it true. County Executive Steuart Pittman announced that Asha Smith will be the new Director of that office. Asha has over 15 years of experience in anti-discrimination, disability, and employee leave laws. Most recently she worked as the county’s Equal Opportunity and Human Relations Officer.
