Nonprofit of the Week: Laughlin Family Foundation

If you’ve watched a Caps game, you know Craig Laughlin’s trademark voice. But you may not know his wife, Linda, was diagnosed with a rare cancer — uterine serous carcinoma — in 2018. Linda was fortunate enough to beat her cancer but rare cancers affect hundreds of thousands of people in the U.S.

That’s why the Laughlins created the Laughlin Family Foundation.

On May 19 at the Blackwall Barn & Lodge in Gambrills, Locker and his broadcast partner, Joe B, are hosting a launch party for their new white wine, Broadcast Blanc from 3 Steves Winery. Every bottle sold supports the foundation. You can try the wine, hang with Locker and Joe B, and even meet former Caps like Peter Bondra. Click here to learn more and get tickets.

Exclusive off-market deals

Did you know some of the best real estate deals never even hit the market? It happens all the time in a low-inventory market (like right now). If your agent isn’t clued in or worse, you’re just scrolling Zillow, you might not see the best deals.

As Maryland’s #1 Waterfront Realtor, Brad Kappel has access to heaps of juicy pre-market opportunities. Think of him like a private investigator, except with beautiful waterfront homes instead of surveillance photos.

Call Brad Kappel today to see what’s out there for you. You may not see it any other way.

Quick Hits

A gift mom will never forget

Every Mother’s Day, Zachary’s Jewelers asks local fifth graders to design a piece of jewelry for their mom. The winners get their designs made into real jewelry, are invited to an intimate brunch at Zachary’s, and are catapulted to the coveted position of favorite child. This year’s winners (from over 200 entries) are Allison from St. Mary’s, Jackson from Indian Creek, and Mili from St. Clair.

Anne Arundel County’s next SMOB

Members of the Chesapeake Regional Association of Student Councils (CRASC) voted Severna Park HS junior Eric Lin to be Anne Arundel County’s 2023–2024 Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB). Eric’s name will now be passed to Governor Wes Moore for the formal appointment. This could be the start of a good run for Severna Park High School. Outgoing SMOB Zachary McGrath is also a Falcon.

ℹ️ Anne Arundel County’s student board member is the only one in the country with full voting rights.

Severna Park/Broadneck split

Two schools rule Anne Arundel County lacrosse but which one’s better? Depends if you ask the boys or the girls. Severna Park’s ladies handled business against the Broadneck Bruins Monday night, winning the county title 12–6. However, Broadneck’s boys handled their own business against the Severna Park Falcons that same day, winning the county title 10–4. Monday marks the first time a boys team other than Severna Park has won since 2015 and Broadneck’s first title since Apple released iTunes (2001). ($)

Bruins Baseball claims county championship

The Broadneck Bruins grabbed another championship just a day after their lacrosse triumph. With just six hits, Broadneck beat North County 1–0 to become the 2023 county champions. Noah Forman ran in the sole run and pitcher Sean Murphy tossed a five-hit shutout, culminating with a bases-loaded strikeout to end the game. ($)
