Introducing the Choptank CRAB FEAST 🦀

Always wanted to witness the birth of a new tradition? This is your chance! The Choptank is having its first ever CRAB FEAST on Saturday, April 27 and we can’t imagine a better setting than Annapolis’ iconic Ego Alley.

The feast includes 2 hours of all-you-can-eat crabs, Maryland crab soup, corn on the cob, hush puppies, watermelon, brownies, and much more. There will also be a specialty drink menu featuring buckets of beer, crush deals, and more.

Want a seat at the table? There are two seatings, 1 PM and 4 PM. Get your tickets today. And as proof that you were part of the first-ever event, a limited edition CRAB FEAST t-shirt comes with every ticket purchased!

THE DIGEST

Our top stories of the week

It’s been a busy week around town. If you didn’t learn anything reading the Scoop this week, here are the highlights.

Johnnies win croquet 🏆
In the 40th playing of the Annapolis Cup Croquet Tournament, the Johnnies beat the Mids for the 32nd time. While the games were going on, plenty of spectators enjoyed the festivities, and Drone US Photography got the pics to prove it.

Wanted: Summer intern at Scoop 🍦🤳
Why spend the summer doing a job you hate (or worse, an unpaid internship 😬) when the best summer internship is right here? We’re on the lookout for a creative Social Media Intern. Whether you’re a student or a retiree with a great grasp of the ‘Gram, apply here.

County passes anti-discrimination law ❤️
County council unanimously passed major legislation this week, making it illegal to discriminate in private employment, hotels, restaurants, and other venues. Previously, Anne Arundel County only had authority in housing discrimination cases.

Top clicks of the week 🏆

USDA recognizes AACPS summer meals program

AACPS served over 90,000 meals from 60 different distribution points last summer. That’s why it just received a USDA Turnip the Beet Award. They recognize schools going above and beyond to feed kids. This is the third time AACPS has been awarded, and it’s the only system in the state to receive the award this year.

It’s official. Sailing season is here.

Why is it sailing season? Because Wednesday Night Races start next week and next weekend is the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show. What a week to live in America’s Sailing Capital.

There’ll be dozens of sailboats – from dinghies to cruisers and relaxing catamarans to the Pride of Baltimore II. That’s not for sale though 😉

You can take useful classes like diesel maintenance, emergency offshore medicine, or the on-water beginners workshop. Over 100 exhibitors will have everything sailors need. Tired? Hit the No Wake Zone for luxury lounge furniture, live music, and Maryland-made wines and spirits.

We’ll see you at the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show April 26–28. Buy tickets online and save 10%!

Patriot League Tennis Championship

Navy women’s tennis is the second seed in the Patriot League Women’s Tennis Championship this weekend and they’re hosting! Navy plays its first round against Bucknell at 3:15 PM today (4/19). Semifinals are Saturday at 10 AM and 2 PM; the finals are Sunday at 1 PM. All the action happens at the Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium unless it rains in which case it’ll be just inside in the Tose Family Tennis Center – 64 Greenbury Point Rd, Annapolis, MD 21402.

There are only 2 more regular season games on the men’s Navy lacrosse schedule. And both are under the Friday night lights at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. One is tonight (4/19) and the other is next Friday (4/26). Tonight, Navy’s taking on #21 Loyola at 7 PM. The game will be nationally televised on CBS but since tickets are only $10 (and $5 for students), we highly recommend going in person. As always. . . Go Navy, Beat Loyola!
