đŚCorrecting a glaring typo
Businesses band together over parking, AACPS sports showcase...
TOGETHER WITH
Good morning, Annapolis (again). I made a typo so bad in the first story that for the first time in Scoop history, weâre resending the whole damn newsletter. The corrected sentence is written in bold in the first story. Explanation below:
I wrote that former Navy coach Paul Johnson started in 2022 after the worst 2-year stretch in Navy football history. The year I meant to write was 2002. I wanted to send this correction ASAP because it could start rumors regarding the current coaching staff.
Thanks for sticking with us. Sorry for the double email.
âRyan Sneddon
P.S. Thank you to the Reverend Dr. Carletta Allen for quickly spotting this and letting us know!
Roger Staubach and Paul Johnson to be honored when Navy plays Air Force
This yearâs Air Force game is going to be special. You ever wondered what the 27 on Navyâs football field is? Itâs for 1961 grad Joe Bellino, one of Navyâs two Heisman winners. The other is getting his number on the field next week.
Roger Staubach isnât just Navyâs best player. Heâs frequently ranked as one of the top 10 quarterbacks in history. Next Saturday against Air Force, his trademark #12 will be on the 12 yard line at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium where it will live forever.
Many other members of Navyâs legendary 1963 team will also attend for their 60th reunion.
Former coach Paul Johnson will be honored for his recent induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. He took the helm in 2002 when the Mids were coming off their worst 2-year stretch (1 win, 20 losses) in the Academyâs 123-year football history.
After going 2â10 in his first season, Johnson steered the Mids to a 43â19 record with 2 bowl wins in the next five seasons. He also crushed the other service academies. During Johnsonâs tenure, Navy went 11â1 against Air Force and Army.
We scored exclusive interviews for the Navy Football Podcast with both Roger and Paul in advance of the game. Get your tickets for the Air Force game, itâs going to be a good one. In the meantime. . . Go Navy, Beat Charlotte!

CIVIL NEWS
37 businesses unite over parking
You know when you park downtown, overstay your meter, and book it back to move your car? One local bartender calls that âparking hopscotch.â And business owners say theyâre sick of playing.
37 downtown businesses have teamed up to create the âDowntown Business Owners Association.â Their complaint: daily rates in garages arenât affordable for their employees. Their solution: 24-hour, $5 parking for all downtown employees in every garage.
Some garages (including Premium Parking which operates the Hillman) are already looking into employee discount systems.
Meanwhile, Alderwoman Eleanor Tierney introduced a resolution this week to streamline the parking fee system. ($)
