THE DIGEST

Scoop’s Big Birthday Wish 🎂

You don’t have to get us anything for our birthday, really, we insist . . . but if you wanted to, could you help us get to 20,000 subscribers? 🥹

Scoop is turning 4 on Saturday and we’re sitting right on the cusp of 20,000 subscribers. It’d be a super special b-day gift if we hit it before Scoop’s party on Friday! 🥳

So here’s the deal. Whoever refers the most people to the Scoop between now and our party at 6:30 PM on Friday gets a $150 gift card to any restaurant or store in town. Literally anywhere you want.

How do you refer? Great question. Scroll down in this email until you see this:

Then just send the link you see (everyone’s is unique) to your friends. Or your enemies. Or anyone, really. As long as they confirm their subscription. Only confirmed referrals count.

Y’all rocked the referrals yesterday but we’re not there yet . . . keep ‘em coming 😃

Coyote overboard!

Photo: David Sites

One local landmark had some notable damage from Tropical Storm Debby: the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse, which lost its dock to a 5-foot storm surge. Drew, the coyote decoy used to keep the seagulls away, was also carried off with the dock.

DNR found Drew floating along 7 miles north of the lighthouse. And no, he wasn’t doggy-paddling — he was still screwed to the dock, which was mostly in one piece.

Drew has been brought back safely, and Maguire Marine Construction is constructing a temporary dock for the Lighthouse. Which is a good thing because no dock = no tours. And tours are an essential funding mechanism for our beloved lighthouse.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Nothing Bundt Cakes wants us to have a cake and eat it too. 🍰

Literally. Franchise owners Glenn and Rhonda Rogers chose Park Plaza (550 Ritchie Highway) for their third Anne Arundel County location, joining their Annapolis and Gambrills spots. Which is fabulous because Severna Park has been craving more bakery options!

Recognized as the nation’s largest specialty cake company, the Texas-based chain boasts over 600 locations in the U.S. and Canada. They offer handcrafted bundt cakes in various flavors like chocolate chocolate chip, red velvet, snickerdoodle, and more. Decorated cakes, mini bundt cakes, gluten-free options, and cookies are also available.

The Rogers’ plan to open in November. Hiring alert: 25 employees will be hired for the new store. We heard there are delicious perks! 🥮

Lawn looking a little lackluster?

Try saying that 5 times fast. Maybe your grass just needs a little first aid (and no, tossing seeds on the bare spots won’t cut it.) The key to a lush, green lawn is seed to soil contact, and for that, you need the right equipment. Enter: Lawn Doctor’s Turf Tamer Power Seeder.

This state-of-the-art machine uses ground-metered technology to evenly sow seeds directly into the soil, without damaging the existing grass. Lawn Doctor’s experienced lawn specialists use high-quality grass seeds to efficiently upgrade your yard and your curb appeal. Call today to get a quote.
