Crabcake Review S3E1: Adam’s on Fourth

It’s summer . . . and that means Naptown Scoop is bringing you yet another season of our famous Crabcake Reviews. Thanks for submitting your fave joints around town that we should include this season. Your suggestions are noted and we look forward to chowing down for 10 new episodes this summer.

First up: Adam’s on Fourth. Ryan and Captain Chris moseyed on over from Naptown Scoop’s new office to sample their cakes. What was the score? You’ll have to check out our Instagram to find out.

Want to see who makes our Top 10 reviews of all time . . . or should we say so far? That’s right here.

Have you tried The Choptank’s new cocktail menu?

You gotta see these. 8 new cocktails – some you’ll recognize from last summer, some are totally new. I can’t wait to try the La Dorada, Ryan can’t wait to have a Fortuna, and sales guy Mike thinks the Leviathan looks lit (intern Ella just taught him that word). Can’t wait for the next office happy hour.

The Choptank is located right on Ego Alley and is one of Annapolis’ most popular spots for fresh seafood, live music, and great cocktails (obviously). And you can’t beat that rooftop view. This next week will be a hot one and we can’t think of a better way to enjoy it than sitting dockside with one of their new cocktails in hand.

There’s no better place to be this summer. Make a reservation today!

City Council passes budget

Annapolis officially has a budget for next year! The City Council voted for a $191 million budget for FY2025, which covers capital improvements (such as City Dock flood mitigation) and operating expenses (such as establishing a new Department of Central Services). This final budget is a little higher than the one Mayor Gavin Buckley proposed back in April ($187.9 million), but it keeps property tax rates steady.

Are you staying hydrated?

Good. Now look at your lawn. Does it look hydrated? Summer’s just around the corner, and so are more record setting temperatures. Lawn Doctor’s all-natural HydraGuard Program helps prevent dry patches, moisture stress, and seasonal drought damage. By managing root moisture and evening out watering schedules, your lawn will be ready for whatever fun the sun may bring. Beat the heat and call the Doctor today to get a quote.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

J. McLaughlin x Annapolis Hope Sip & Shop Fundraiser 🛍️

We don’t really need a good reason to shop, but it never hurts. The J. McLaughlin Sip & Shop Fundraiser for Annapolis Hope on Wednesday, July 10 from 10 AM–6 PM gives us plenty of reason to do just that, so jot it in your calendar now. Come on out and shop, sip on some tasty drinks, and enjoy snacks.

J. McLaughlin, the men’s and women’s retailer at 181 Main Street in Annapolis, is donating 15% of sales to Annapolis Hope. J.McLaughlin loves to give back to the community and wants to contribute to the cause of helping the late Nick Mireles’ wife and 8 kids avoid eviction.

SPORTS

After coaching the last 7 years at High Point, Ken Broschart is joining Navy’s men’s lacrosse coaching staff as offensive coordinator (OC). In Ken’s first season as OC at High Point, he led a remarkable turnaround that set single-season school records in goals (232), assists (122), and shot percentage (.340). The Hicksville, N.Y., native earned USILA All-America honors 3 times as a defenseman at New York Institute of Technology.

Meanwhile, John Orsen – who has served as the Mids' defensive coordinator since 2020 – has been promoted to associate head coach. After John’s arrival, Navy jumped from 50th nationally in scoring defense (12.08) to 11th (9.40). They’ve also ranked among the nation's top-12 scoring defenses in 4 of his 5 seasons. This past spring, the team was 24th nationally and No. 1 in the Patriot League in scoring defense (10.75).
