THE DIGEST

Plastic Bag Reduction Act

It’s in the bag, starting January 22, 2025. The City of Annapolis will ban most plastic bags in retail stores to reduce plastic waste and encourage sustainability. Retailers can offer paper bags with a minimum $0.10 fee, and may give free reusable bags during specified times. Plastic bag exceptions apply for certain bakery, bulk, and dry-cleaned items. Retailers must post notices in English and Spanish. And we know January feels a long way off, so don’t worry – we’ll remind you before it takes effect.Stories with ($) require a third-party subscription.

Navy senior linebacker and co-captain Colin Ramos has caught the eye of the Lombardi Award Committee. Colin is one of 12 semifinalists for the 2024 Lombardi Award, presented to the outstanding lineman who best epitomizes leadership, courage, performance, and discipline on and off the field. Players were selected from a preseason watchlist of over 90 and are the very best of all Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) conferences and independents. Colin is fourth in the nation in tackles, averaging 11.5 stops per game. In Navy's win over Memphis, he had a career-high 20 tackles, the most by any FBS player this year.

Navy faces Tulane at noon on Saturday, November 16 at home. Good luck to the mids, and here’s hoping for lots of tackles from Colin!
