THE DIGEST
🚨 Annapolis Alert Test 🚨
Don’t freak out if you get an alert from the Annapolis Office of Emergency Management next week on Sept. 24. It’s just a test. As part of National Preparedness Month, the office is testing out the Alert Annapolis Community Notification System on Tuesday, so all people who are signed up to receive notifications (or have a publicly listed landline number) will get an alert. This will help determine just how effective the system is, and whether the office is prepared to send out an alert in case of an emergency (or a non-emergency that may still have significant impact to residents).
Such emergency situations could include:
☑️ Evacuation
☑️ Shelter in place
☑️ Boil water order
☑️ Escaped inmate
So, is there anything you need to do ahead of the test? Make sure your information is updated. You can sign up to receive alerts via call, text, or email.
New Village Academy probably still going to the mall 🏫
Earlier this summer, you might’ve heard the news that New Village Academy, a forthcoming charter school, wasn’t opening this fall as originally planned. Instead, it was delaying its opening to next fall while it finalized a lease with Annapolis Mall. So, now that the mall has new owners, what does this mean for New Village? No big changes, according to those involved. New Village’s founder, Romey Pittman, says Centennial has invited the school to lease the space, and although nothing is finalized, Pittman is confident it will move forward. ($)

Musical Monday 🎵
One of our favorite parts of the local music scene is how varied it is. Just take a look at (or give a listen to, we should say) what’s on the schedule this week:
🎶 The Annapolis Opera opens its season with Raising the Curtain, a celebration combining music performance and tropical dining, on Thursday 6:30 PM at the Byzantium Center.
🎶 The Blues & Gold unit of the Naval Academy Band performs blues and blues-infused music at Radford Terrace this Thursday 7 PM.

Next Sunday: Together in TEAL 🏃♀️
Together in TEAL, the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition’s run/walk fundraiser, comes to Annapolis next weekend with an event at the Annapolis Mall. On Sunday (9/22), registration opens at 8:30 AM with the walk itself starting at 10:15 AM, but throughout the morning, there will also be other celebratory activities — a survivor photo, a raffle, and opening and closing ceremonies. These community-centered events are part of the national coalition’s efforts to spread awareness, promote education, and bring in money for research. Learn more and register.
Cheers to our freedom to read 🍻

Happy birthday, Wildberry 🍓
It’s pretty wild to think that Wildberry Farm & Market has been part of our community for 5 years now — it seems like just yesterday our favorite Crownsville-based agrotourism venue started hosting events! To celebrate, Wildberry announced a special celebration on Saturday, October 12, 9 AM–1 PM at the field market (1047 St. Stephens Church Road, Crownsville), so be sure to save the date.
There will be live music by Heartwood 10 AM–noon, a visit/signing with local author Britney Chamberlain to share her new cookbook Britney Breaks Bread, plus photo ops by Tangled Balloons + Prop Star Photo Booth and free balloon creations for kids (and kids at heart) by Clementine the Clown. As if all of that isn’t enough, 60+ local small businesses are signed up to sell at the market. Rain date is the following day.
