THE DIGEST
Annapolis is having an Indiana Jones moment 🦪
When your city is hundreds of years old, it’s no wonder archeologists unearth artifacts every so often. Most recently, lots of discoveries have been coming from the Hammond-Harwood House. In an effort to address drainage issues in the front yard, four dry wells are being installed, giving archaeologists a chance to examine the dirt as digging takes place.
EAC Archaeology, a Baltimore-based archaeological research company, is overseeing the project. So far they have discovered bits of pottery, sewing needles, marbles, a porcelain doll’s head, a toothbrush, a human molar, and a late 18th-century ammunition piece. Some of these artifacts (and others) could eventually be displayed in the museum inside.
Looking to get your hands dirty too? Volunteers interested in helping screen the dirt can email Wanner at [email protected]. ($)
Don’t forget: ZIPS for Annapolis Hope 💗
Wednesdays are a great day to get your dry-cleaning done, because ZIPS Cleaners on West Street is donating 5% of sales every Wednesdays (now through August 14) to Annapolis Hope. That’s the perfect excuse to drop off those clothes to be cleaned, pressed, and ready to wear the next time you have a fancy occasion. — 1955 West Street, Annapolis, MD
Help CTA grow 🎭
If you’ve ever seen a show at Children’s Theatre of Annapolis, you know this isn’t ordinary children’s theater. These are professional-quality productions featuring kids ages 8-18. Now the organization is expanding what it offers the community.
They recently launched the Grow Our Reach campaign which aims to turn CTA into a vibrant arts center with more programs, classes, and events catering to a broader range of artistic interests. The goal is to raise over $1 million, and CTA already has a great start thanks to support from the state, county, and Anne Arundel Arts Council. Learn more about the plans here.

First, HERE. loves to help you get what you want between shops and you can always shop online for unique, locally-made gifts and goods.
Second, we appreciate HERE’s support of Annapolis Hope. Thanks to all the Scoop readers who came out to shop, and thanks to El and team for their generous donation. With the Mireles family facing eviction after last year’s tragic shooting, every bit helps. Consider joining the cause.
