THE DIGEST
Annapolis mourns a friend
Frederik De Pue, Executive Chef and owner of The Henri in Washington and of the former Flamant in Annapolis, died on October 3, 2024 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 48.
Chef Frederik moved to the US at 25 years old and began his career in DC as the Executive Chef of the European Commission Delegation Ambassador. After rising through the ranks in the DC culinary world and working as the creative mind behind several of DC’s most popular restaurants, De Pue opened Flamant in 2017 in West Annapolis. Flamant (which closed in December 2023) was known for excellent service and creative dishes that often blended local ingredients with Chef Frederik’s Belgian background.
During the pandemic, Chef Frederik took many admirable measures to support his employees and the Annapolis community. From catering to meal delivery to Family Pop Ups, Chef got creative with Flamant’s offerings to make sure he could keep his staff employed. He also sought ways to support the Annapolis community, donating hundreds of meals to the West Annapolis Pop-up, as well as donating Thanksgiving turkeys to Tyler Heights Elementary School for local families.
The De Pue family shared the following for those who wish to honor his memory:
If you wish to make a contribution or gift in support of Chef Frederik’s legacy, please consider donating to No Kid Hungry, an organization close to the De Pue family’s heart, which is dedicated to ending childhood hunger.
Costume Drive 👻 🧙♀️🦸♂️
To know David and Dawn Orso is to know they’re a very philanthropic couple. About 8 years ago, Dawn saw that local charity Sarah’s House, an emergency shelter where children are more than half the population, needed Halloween costumes.
Last year, the Orsos collected about 500 costumes for kids in need. Help this year by donating new or gently used Halloween costumes (ages 6 months to 15 years) until October 25 at their office: 8 Evergreen Rd, Severna Park, MD.

Honoring Severna Park Volleyball Coach 🏐
For 37 seasons, volleyball coach Tim Dunbar served our community. He led Severna Park High School (SPHS) to state championships in 1991, 1992, 1993, and 2014. He stepped down before this season, leaving the program in coach Caitlin Mills’ hands. To honor Dunbar, SPHS held a retirement ceremony last week, with remarks by JV volleyball coach Lauren Boyd Leventry. As a social studies teacher, Dunbar also taught multiple generations of families at SPHS for over four decades.
Read more about Dunbar’s impact in Lauren’s Severna Park Voice article. Fun fact: Scoop writers Lauren and Dylan both had Dunbar as a teacher. 🍎🍎
