TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. I have good news and bad news. Always bad news first. The smoky haze is back. But it should be significantly better Saturday and Sunday.

Let’s get to it.

—Ryan Sneddon

P.S. Happy birthday to Tony Aguilar!

The party so popular you can only buy 4 tickets

Every year that passes where I don’t throw in the towel and get a “real” job, Naptown Scoop hosts a party. We get our best advertisers (like Brad Kappel) to sponsor it. We hire Ken’s Creative Kitchen to cook amazing food. And then we donate whatever money is leftover to an awesome nonprofit.

This year we’re donating to Charting Careers, a nonprofit breaking the cycle of poverty one kid at a time.

Tickets went on sale last week and we sold so many I had to limit orders to four tickets so everyone has a chance to come. The party’s August 18 from 6:30–9:30 PM. Get tickets before they’re gone.

Shucking awesome 🦪

An oyster a day keeps the doctor away. For legal reasons: that is not a fact, but they sure are tasty! Whether it’s with a bit of house-made mignonette or straight from the shell, who doesn’t love a good oyster?

On Ego Alley, they're the best you'll ever get. From Fried Oysters to Oysters Rockefeller, no one prepares them like The Choptank.

Enjoy Maryland’s famous cuisine and a cold one at the classic fish & crab house, all while listening to live local musicians and getting some sun on the spacious waterfront deck and rooftop.

THE DIGEST

🍎 AACPS launches career development program

Confucius said choose a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life. Scoop says if your job is writing newsletters, you’ll love it but still work hard. Deadlines and such. . . . The County announced Wednesday that it’s launching a career counseling program for AACPS middle and high schools this fall. The partnership between AACPS, AACC, and County workforce development groups means students can have less confusion (and more Confucius) in their futures.

⚠️ Goodbye exit 31

It’s been real. It’s been fun. But it hasn’t been real fun so exit 31 has gotta go. MD SHA permanently closed eastbound Route 50 entry and exit ramps at Whitehall Road (aka exit 31) last night. SHA says the closure enhances safety and “reduces potential conflict.” Scoop says stop thinking you’re smart and skipping Bridge traffic by taking the local roads. Those are for the local residents who you know, actually need them.

LOCAL BUSINESS

🍲 Fine Filipino dining

Red snapper crudo. Roasted pork belly stuffed with lemongrass. Leche flan. Drooling yet? Westfield Annapolis’ newest restaurant Lasang Pinoy opens today. It’s a family-owned establishment with one goal – fine Filipino dining. After the grand opening today at 11 AM, standard hours will be Sunday–Thursday from 11 AM–10 PM. Opening in the former Nando’s Peri-Peri next to Chipotle.

🍪 That’s how the cookie Crumbls

Crumbl Cookies opens at the Harbour Center at 8 AM this morning. Get there early! The first customers get an exclusive gift. Like many great restaurants, Crumbl rotates their menu weekly. You might see wedding cake, peanut butter blossom, and galaxy brownie this week. Next week it’ll be completely different. Except chocolate chip. Crumbl claims their chocolate chip cookies are literally the best in the world so those don’t rotate. Interesting claim because I’m pretty sure my mom doesn’t work there.

  • Crumbl’s open 8 AM–10 PM on weekdays, 8 AM–midnight on Fri/Sat, and closed on Sundays. 2576 Solomons Island Rd, Annapolis, MD 21401.

🎆 Fourth of July roundup

Your dog’s least favorite holiday is almost here. 💥 Here’s what’s coming up:

  • Sherwood Forest fireworks. Monday 7/3 around 9 PM. A beloved tradition by one of Annapolis’ most unique neighborhoods. Sherwood itself is a gated community but tons of people watch from the Severn River. Hop on a friend’s boat or grab tickets for a Watermark cruise before they sell out. Or text your friends in “the forest” (as they call it). The view’s great from dry land as well.

  • Annapolis parade and fireworks. Annapolis celebrates on Tuesday 7/4 with an evening parade, giving you time to drink grill all day. The parade steps off at 6:30 PM at Amos Garrett Boulevard and proceeds along West Street, around Church Circle, and down Main Street. At 8 PM, the Salvation Army Band performs patriotic music at City Dock.

At 9:15 PM, it’s fireworks time. A grand display launches from a barge in the harbor. The best viewing places will be City Dock, Naval Academy Bridge, street end parks facing the harbor, and of course, any home with a clear view of the sky over the harbor. Parking info and road closures.

  • Severna Park bike contest and parade The annual decorated bike contest returns Tuesday. Kids are invited to pimp their bikes or trikes for categories Most Original, Most Beautiful, and Most Patriotic. Free registration is 9:15–10 AM and contestants join the community parade – usually the biggest in the area which starts at 10 AM.

  • Community parades

    • West Annapolis - Tuesday 9 AM

    • Eastport - Tuesday 10 AM
