Buy Local Week: Good Luck Farm 🥬 🌽 🥦 🧄
It’s Buy Local Week (July 18-28), which encourages Marylanders to incorporate locally grown, produced, or harvested products into each meal. Today we want to shout out Good Luck Farm in Davidsonville because they can help you get some veggies into your Buy Local menus.
Besides freshly grown leafy greens, broccoli, corn on the cob, and garlic bulbs, you can also get strawberries, peaches, and beautiful plants. From 9 AM to 1 PM on Wednesdays (aka today 😉), they’re at Bowen’s Farm Supply (2550 Riva Rd in Annapolis). Catch them at the County Farmers Market (275 Harry S. Truman Pkwy in Annapolis) on Saturdays and Sundays. Ray Davis, who has served the community for over 30 years, is the green thumb behind Good Luck Farm. Stop by to ask for his recommendations on preparing his bounty of fruits and vegetables!
THE DIGEST
Local author finds debut success 📖
Congrats to local author Elise Keitz Harlow on her debut novel, When Bone Melts, which launched on Amazon earlier this month. Within 24 hours, it held a top 6 spot in the category of World War II historical fiction! The book follows 19-year-old sculptor Pasquale Marinova, who discovers secrets from his father’s past, spurring him to reexamine his family and noble lineage. Harlow is an alumna of St. Mary’s and lives in the area with her Navy husband and their daughter.
Morabito Family Dental photo contest winners 📸
Congrats to John Anthony, Renee Weir, and Bill Dolan, the winners of the Morabito Family Dental photo contest. Morabito staff and patients will have some beautiful new photos to enjoy in their office . . . and the winners each get a gift card to a West Annapolis restaurant of their choice. Check out these stunners!
Dr. Bedell speaks at Harvard summer institute
AACPS doesn’t need to brag, but Superintendent Dr. Mark Bedell is kind of a big deal. Last week, he spoke to about 170 principals from schools across the country at the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s summer leadership institute. His topic: building trust through equity, transparency, and open dialogue to advance every student.
In his remarks, Dr. Bedell discussed how AACPS implements mandates from Blueprints for Maryland’s Future, comprehensive redistricting plans, a controversial proposed flag policy, and relationships with groups often thought of as adversarial. “This work is not about always being right and getting everything you want. It’s about doing the right things for students,” Bedell said.
