Good morning, Annapolis. The results are in from our lottery survey last week. Seems like if most of you were handed a giant bank account, you’d travel the world but still call Annapolis home. But a surprising number of you did say you’d adopt

The Biggest Stories We Covered this Week
🐶 A lovable rescue named Moose won our third annual Mutt Madness contest, scoring himself a custom portrait for his doghouse and a $50 gift card to Sea Dog Pet Boutique. Moose declined to comment on this story, preferring instead to chew on his favorite bone.
🌊 A decision on the anonymous City Dock lawsuit was delayed two weeks and Historic Annapolis filed another challenge to the project involving the proposed Maritime Welcome Center.
🥖 Great Harvest Bread Company is back open in West Annapolis with a limited menu.

Capital Gazette 2025 high school baseball preview ⚾️
The Capital continues rolling out high school sports previews for Anne Arundel County. Baseball is now up to bat. Redistricting shuffled the lineup for public schools, but competition remains fierce. Freshmen are landing varsity spots with expectations of significant playing time, too.
Severna Park is the team to beat, but plenty of squads are stepping up to the plate. After a Class 4A state semifinal run last year, many coaches expect Crofton to be one of those teams. Spalding, with its stacked roster of five Division 1 quality pitchers, looks to extend its MIAA A Conference championship streak to an exceptional four seasons. ($)

LOCAL BUSINESS
Annapolis Town Center apartments sell for $160 million 🏢
Ever wondered how much the apartments at Annapolis Town Center are worth? Me either. But now we know. $160 million. Specifically, Mariner Bay (the tall ones) = $87 million and Crosswinds (the short, newer ones) = $73 million. PGIM (an arm of Prudential Financial) sold the properties to the Fairfax-based Peterson Companies, perhaps best known for developing National Harbor. Most of their holdings, however, do not have Ferris wheels. They own retail centers, apartment complexes, office buildings, industrial properties, and self-storage facilities all over Maryland and Virginia. ($)
Inn at Horn Point celebrates 24 years 🎂
Maybe it’s because all of us call Annapolis home, but there’s something that just feels . . . well, homey about Annapolis. It’s not the sort of place where you’d recommend an out-of-town visitor or a tourist to stay at any ol’ chain hotel, right? Which is why it feels so appropriate that we should have a thriving and longstanding bed and breakfast like the Inn at Horn Point, which just celebrates its 24th year in business this weekend. Owners Carol and Cory Bonney are proud to call their “boutique getaway” one of the few remaining family-owned, family-operated, full-service bed and breakfasts in Annapolis. And let me just say, I haven’t tried the beds here but the breakfast is fantastic.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’
It’s time to burn your socks!
Some people are like, “Yay! It’s finally sandals season! I need a pedicure!” But if you’re from around Annapolis, you know we keep things weird and celebrate the vernal equinox with a good old burning of our socks. If you’re wondering where this ridiculous celebration comes from, Ms. Molly Winans traced the history of sock burning to 1977 in a story for SpinSheet Magazine (the best writing about dirty laundry ever published).
The biggest public sock burning happens at the Annapolis Maritime Museum in Eastport, and it is sold out. If you don’t have tickets but you want to celebrate like the weirdo Annapolitan that you are, there are some great tips here for burning your own socks. The city’s poet laureate, Jeff Holland, wrote a great poem you can recite to mark the occasion if words fail you. Remember to tag us in your photos, and let boat shoe season begin!
Chesapeake Oyster Week starts tomorrow 🦪
Don’t forget that this weekend marks the beginning of a pretty special shell-ebration. Chesapeake Oyster Week runs March 21–31, when Bay-friendly restaurants offer all kinds of oyster specials. In addition to slurping seafood to your heart’s content, you’ll help the process of recycling oyster shells into the local waterways so more oysters can grow in the bay and keep cleaning it. You might say this is a week that lets you savor flavor and save the bay at the same time!
Want to watch Navy football practice? 🏈
You’re in luck because this Saturday’s practice is at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and it’s open to the public. Admission is free but parking is $10. After practice, select players will sign autographs!
Maryland Day weekend
We’re looking at a phenomenal forecast for this weekend, with spring weather showing up just in time for Maryland Day celebrations. Whether you want to hike or shop, dine or get educated, there are low-to-no-cost events all over the county for Marylanders young and old.

The South edged the North, 107–104, in the boys’ game of the 34th annual Anne Arundel County Senior All-Star Basketball Classic at Severna Park High. Annapolis Area Christian School’s Julian Kelly led with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 dunks, earning MVP honors alongside Glen Burnie’s Braedon Buchanan (16 points and 16 rebounds).
In the girls’ game, the South won again 70–62.
