Annapolis' best garden centers, AACPL's Community Pantry, Board of Education meeting...

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. A group of thieves stole two $4,300 bulldog puppies from a pet store in Denver on Sunday while their accomplice faked a seizure to distract everyone. A woman who bought one of the pups for $1,500 from a street vendor later returned him. The police arrested fake seizure dude. Not sure how he expected to get away with that.

In todayā€™s Naptown Scoop:

  • Annapolisā€™ best garden centers

  • AACPLā€™s community pantry

  • Board of Education meeting

Letā€™s get to it.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Reader Recommendations: One Bridal šŸ‘°

ā€œI recently visited one bridalā€™s new boutique that opened this Fall, and as a 2025 Annapolis bride, I canā€™t recommend them enough. The owner, Allia is an Annapolis native and military spouse, and their team of bridal consultants, gown selection, and accessories was just perfect. If you recently got engaged over the holiday season (including Valentineā€™s Day) I highly recommend One Bridal as your first and only stop on saying yes to the dress!ā€

49 West Celebrates the Dirty 30

Itā€™s hard to believe 49 West is turning 30 this month. With the funky vibe, strong coffee, and cutting edge taste in musical acts, our favorite place to gather and get work done feels much more like an artsy teenager.

ā€œWe were coined ā€˜Annapolisā€™ living room,ā€™ā€ says owner Sarah Cahalan, who opened 49 West with her husband, Brian, in 1995. The Cahalans modeled the bistro off a coffee shop-slash-wine bar in Chicago where they both worked. Today, you might visit 49 West for their live music (they have performers just about every night) but stick around for their eclectic menu and comfortable work setting (we appreciate wifi). With monthly art receptions and now comedy nights on the docket, all we can say is that 49 West is a vibe. So hereā€™s to another 30 from all of us at the Scoop! ($)

Spring Is Coming: Letā€™s Get the Yard in Good Shape

With morning temps still in the 20s, March is certainly doing its ā€œIn like a lionā€ bit. But with more sunlight during the day and a promise of warmer days coming soon, everyone is getting out the rakes and hoes. Hereā€™s where weā€™re getting our gardening supplies.

Homestead Gardens: Itā€™s the local mecca with two locations, this indoor/outdoor garden center has everything from bulbs to shrubs, bricks to chicks. Check out workshops and classes to up your garden game this year, as well.

On Bay Ridge Road, Bru-Mar Gardens is a friendly local stop for everything under the sun. Their herbs and vegetables are top-notch, and their native plant selection will transform your outdoor space into an oasis. Just down the road is Bay Ridge Nursery, which is independently owned by one of the areaā€™s most respected gardeners. Theyā€™ll consult on your space, help with bulk and special orders, and provide the best local knowledge around.

Arnold Farms on Ritchie Highway is a great place to get inspired for outdoor living. They have a phenomenal selection of plants and patio furniture, and theyā€™re our go-to spot for mulch and compost delivery.

Is it Worth it to Hire a Financial Advisor?

When people think of financial planning, they sometimes wonder, ā€œDo I really need a financial advisor? Why pay for one when I can get free advice online?ā€

Let us ask you: Why would you hire a CPA to do your taxes or a plumber to fix your pipes when thereā€™s information online to show you how to do it yourself?

The answer is simple: You either donā€™t have the time to do it or you know a professional will do a better job. If you want free, generalized advice, thatā€™s what youā€™ll get. If you want to help your financial dreams, thatā€™s where a financial advisor comes in.
