We’ve been collecting applicants to help us write this newsletter for several weeks now. It’s an impressive list. So like Dock Street at 2 AM, it’s last call. If you can say the following truthfully, consider applying:

  • I’m able to commit 10 hours/week to Naptown Scoop (paid)

  • I’m a creative, teachable writer

  • I know Annapolis isn’t perfect but I freakin’ love it

  • I’m not opposed to eating ice cream for breakfast. Kidding . . . this isn’t a requirement.

That you? Apply here.

They say unicorns don’t exist

Yet there it stands. The finest waterfront estate to hit the 2023 market. Let me tell you why there’s nothing else like this.

First, 2701 Wild Holly Road has a combination of amenities you simply cannot build anymore. New code won’t allow it (this is grandfathered in) and there isn’t enough available land. Check these out:

  • Multi-slip private pier

  • Waterfront storage shed

  • Fully riprapped, elevated shoreline

  • Massive yard

  • Waterside Pool

  • 2-level guest house

Second, it’s not just a great piece of land. There’s a 6,000+ square foot home with iconic coastal flair and a spacious renovated kitchen.

Brad Kappel is bringing this home to market soon. It won’t last long. Contact Brad for your private tour.

County to buy Lothian Grain Elevator

Perdue AgriBusiness, a subsidiary of Maryland’s homegrown poultry powerhouse, announced its intention to close its Lothian Grain Elevator in January 2021. After talking to local farmers, County Executive Pittman asked CEO Randy Day to delay the closure and seek a new owner. Two years later, it appears that owner will be Anne Arundel County itself.

The two parties just signed a $1.25 million agreement. Before the deal closes in 90 days, the county will get an environmental assessment, appraisal, and County Council approval. Maryland’s FY24 budget includes money to reimburse the county for the purchase.

Traffic alert đźš—đźš—đźš—

The westbound right lane of Route 50 between the Ritchie Highway ramp and the Severn River Bridge will be closed around the clock for repairs until March 25.

Harper’s Waterfront open for business

I don’t know about you but I think new restaurants are the bee’s knees. Harper’s Waterfront at Turkey Point Marina soft opened last week with a limited-menu. We haven’t checked it out yet, but we will. Of course we’ll let you know how it is.

Harper’s is an upscale steak & seafood restaurant. You can get Montana-raised wagyu beef, 36-ounce USDA Prime tomahawks, and much more. Call (410) 798-8338 to make a reservation.

Harper’s Waterfront is located at 1107 Turkey Point Road, Edgewater, MD 21037

Lemongrass’ new neighbor

The Annapolis Planning Commission approved West Village LLC’s plan to build six apartments and a restaurant on the empty lot at 161 West Street.

  • If West Village LLC sounds familiar, that’s because it developed Metropolitan, Lemongrass, and Hudson & Fouquet. Mayor Gavin Buckley is a part owner but “stepped away about a year before [he] was elected.”

Gavin and his business partner, Jody Danek, bought the lot from the city 15 years ago. This isn’t their first attempt to develop it, but it’s the first plan that’s been approved. The commission approved it unanimously last week. ($)

Raise a glass to the Inn at Horn Point

Eastport’s only bed & breakfast turns 21 this week. Owners Carol and Cory Bonney bought a house on Chesapeake Avenue in 2000. 18 months of renovation later, they opened the Inn at Horn Point. About 20 years and thousands of bookings later, the Bonneys sold the original home and relocated to the even more tranquil 534 Burnside Street.

Rumor has it Cory’s breakfast is so good it’s worth a staycation. Must be why the Inn at Horn Point bills itself as “Annapolis’ only Bed & Delicious Breakfast.”

A covered front porch is under construction and should be done in May.

Annapolis Film Festival

You’ve seen the signs. You’ve read it in Scoop. Now it’s showtime. The Annapolis Film Festival opens tomorrow with the much anticipated film Chevalier. Opening night tickets (after party included) are still available but hurry. It was packed last year.

The filmmaking fun continues for cinephiles and casual watchers alike throughout the weekend. AFF has 70+ films, 7 venues, and 4 days planned. Click here to learn more about the slate, individual movie tickets, or full festival passes (just $195).

Save this date: Chicken Wing Festival

People take their chicken wings seriously. Case in point: A recent lawsuit accusing Buffalo Wild Wings of false advertising because its boneless wings are basically chicken nuggets. Case in point #2: The 9th annual Maryland Chicken Wing Festival at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds on April 1. They’ve got 15 wing vendors and a wing eating competition but it’s not all about birds. There’s also live music, kids activities, and a host of non-wing victuals. Tickets are limited so buy in advance to secure your spot.

Dinner and a movie

For me, dinner and a movie means Sonia’s Table Delivery on the couch and scrolling Disney+ for so long my food’s gone before the movie even starts. But on March 30 at Homestead Gardens, dinner and a movie means you don’t have to pick the movie (It’s Eat Pray Love) and Bellhouse Catering, Bread and Butter Kitchen, and Vintage Views Bar have dinner (and cleanup) covered. As you watch, they’ll serve dishes like the ones on screen! Tickets include all food and your first drink. March 30, 6–9 PM, Homestead Gardens – 743 W Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD 21035.

Tennis: A perfect spring and summer hobby
