Bands in the Sand
Over 1,600 people packed the beach at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation for one of Scoopâs favorite fundraisers of the year. Jah Werx, the Last Revel, and Misspent Youth shared the stage; delicious local food was consumed, and drinks flowed in reusable metal cups. Since its inception 17 years ago, Bands in the Sand has raised over $4 million for the Chesapeake Bay.
Stay tuned to the Scoop next year to hear about tickets before they sell out!

đĄ Annapolis reveals City Dock reimagining plans
During a public work session last Thursday, City Official revealed plans for massive changes to City Dock. Btw despite our choice of emoji, plans do not call for a Ferris Wheel. Instead, they call for a new harbormasterâs office/welcome center; new seawalls, pump stations, and pop-up storm surge barriers; converting parking into an expanded green park; and more. Although the city is still about $14 million short on the $54 million expected bill, construction is expected to start late winter/early spring 2024 and last 3 years. The United States Power and Sailboat Shows would still happen every October. ($)
đ¨ Harvey Blonderâs hotel
In other major waterfront development news, a proposed âeco-resortâ at Edgewaterâs Liberty Marina is the subject of a county hearing at 9 AM Tuesday. The 198-room hotel, 13 condos, and thousands of feet of ballroom space require several variances and exceptions to local zoning rules. Liberty Marinaâs owner, Harvey Blonder, is no stranger to the news cycle recently. In May, a jury ordered him to pay over $9 million in damages after three partners in Yellowfin â a steak & seafood restaurant right next to Liberty Marina â sued him for financial manipulation. ($)
Harveyâs hand is hard to escape. He also owns Latitude 38Âş which is near the center of the proposed City Dock redevelopment. Heâs expressed interest in turning this into a hotel as well.
