🍦Heads up: Annapolis Ten Mile Race

Another hat in the ring, Renaissance fair, Boards and Bubbly...

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. Yesterday we wrote about Dublin 5 coming out of hiatus to play Shamrock the Dock this March. Some of you correctly pointed out that Shamrock the Dock isn’t just March 17 (when Dublin 5 is playing). St. Patrick’s Day superstar John O’Leary also organized a full Saturday of Shamrockin’ the Dock (March 16). We just got so excited about Dublin 5 that we forgot to mention it ☘️

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • 25th Annual Arts Alive MC announcement

  • How to make charcuterie

  • Theatre Talk Tuesday

Let’s get to it.

—Ryan “O’Malley” Sneddon & Rebecca Kraybill

P.S. Happy belated birthdays to Valeri Tymann and Tanya L!

They asked me back for some reason

Hey Scoop. Ryan here. I MCed Maryland Hall’s Arts Alive fundraiser last September. Didn’t do a great job. But it was my first time. And I’m always better the second time I try something.

So I’m excited to share that I’m returning as emcee (and Chief Imagination Officer) for the 25th Anniversary of Arts Alive next month.

It’s September 8 under the big tent at Maryland Hall. Want to be involved? You can sponsor, buy tickets, donate to the silent auction, or enter the raffle (you don’t have to be there to win). Do it all here.

I hope to see you there. I’ve been practicing my jokes in front of the mirror.

THE DIGEST

Heads up: Annapolis Ten Mile race🏃

We’re giving you all week to plan around this one. The Annapolis Ten Mile Run (AKA A-10) happens Sunday (8/27) and some roads will be closed. The race starts at 7 AM at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and runners will trek downtown and across Naval Academy Bridge before retracing their steps. See all closures here. Running should wrap up by 9:30 AM.

  • You running? If you beat the world’s fastest 10 miler (44:04 by Bernard Koech), congratulatory ice cream is on us. Good luck.

Save these dates: Fall fundraisers 🍂

Rock the Dock. Last year, the Annapolis Rotaract raised $22k at Rock the Dock. This year, they’re hoping you help crush that number while crushing crushes on September 14 at the Maritime Museum. Tickets include beer, wine, a crush bar, all-you-can-eat BBQ, and live music by Loose Ties! Proceeds support The Complete Player.

Masquerade for Missions. Grab your most mysterious mask 🎭 for a masquerade ball that raises money for St. Margaret’s Church’s grant programs. These fund local and national organizations like the St. Luke's Youth Center and the Light House. The evening includes dinner from Light House Bistro, surprise startenders (like bartenders but famous), music from Sly45, and an auction. October 14 at St. Margaret’s Church. Get tickets.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Boards and Bubbly 🧀🍷

Charcuterie, noun, [shar-koot-er-ee]. Fun to say and even more fun to eat. In a beautiful cheesy partnership, Cait’s Cheese and The Big Cheese are hosting a charcuterie workshop called Boards and Bubbly. You’ll learn the art of charcuterie design and leave with your own board. Tonight (8/22) at 7 PM. RSVP here. 47 Randall St, Annapolis, MD 21401

P.S. The Big Cheese is one of Scoop’s favorite little secrets. Find it just around the corner from City Dock. I like to grab a sandwich (try the Cowboy) and eat it on the bulkhead on Ego Alley.

Nothing in this section is sponsored. They're just the things you need to know. I'll always let you know when something's sponsored.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

Theatre Talk Tuesday 🎭️

For the Shakespeare lover → The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) in the garden at Reynolds Tavern. All 37 plays in 97 minutes. Every Tuesday at 7:30 PM through August 29. Tickets.

For the ballet lover → Ballet Theatre of Maryland @ Maryland Hall. Single tickets are now on sale for the company’s 45th year in residence at Maryland Hall. The season includes The Firebird, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, and more. Tickets.

For the opera lover → Season Opening Celebration with Annapolis Opera. Help raise the curtain on the company’s new season with live music and food. September 22 at Byzantium Event and Conference Center. Tickets.

For the theater kid → Theater Summer Camp with Compass Rose Theater. Kids take the stage to learn about acting, production, and more. Register now.

Hark! The Maryland Renaissance Fair beckons 🏰 âš”️

The grand Maryland Renaissance Fair commences on the morn of Saturday (8/26) and graces us with its presence each ensuing Saturday and Sunday through October 22. Pray, be swift in securing thine entrance, for tickets vanish fast. Never ventured hence? Behold, a plethora of victuals and libations, mirthful performances, peddlers of wares, and revelry for all ages. Get tickets. 1821 Crownsville Road, Annapolis, MD 21401.

🍹Do you have your tickets for the Boatyard Beach Bash?

You don’t sell out a party for 10 years in a row unless it’s one hell of a party. And since I’ve attended pretty much all of Annapolis’ parties at this point, I’m qualified to say Beach Bash is one of the best of the year. Musicians who have shared the stage with Jimmy Buffet for years will play right on the beach at the Annapolis Maritime Museum while you enjoy bottomless tropical drinks and a delicious meal. Saturday, September 9 from 4:30–10 PM. Get your tickets here. Proceeds support the Annapolis Maritime Museum’s education programs.

Nothing in this section is sponsored. They're just the things you need to know. I'll always let you know when something's sponsored.
