TOGETHER WITH
Brad Kappel key and anchor logo

Good morning, Annapolis. I’ve lived in Maryland for 20 years and our weather still amazes me. Hope you didn’t put those jackets away yet.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • That live, laugh, love sign is closer than you think

  • Your sailing friends don’t want to hang out on Wednesday nights

  • New dog training business

Let’s get to it.

Nonprofit of the Week: Anne Arundel Women Giving Together

Since 2006, Anne Arundel Women Giving Together (AAWGT) has awarded more than $5 million to 47 nonprofits focused on women and families. It’s a simple premise. One woman can give a little. Lots of women (in this case 260+) can give a lot.

Women join at four tiers – from $175 to $1,075. Nonprofits apply for grants. Committees review the applications. Then the full membership votes to decide who gets the grants.

Sound interesting? Click here to learn more. Women joining by May 2 can vote for 2023 grantees.

P.S. I know what you’re thinking. How can my organization be Nonprofit of the Week? All you have to do is ask.

Coming Soon in Downs on the Severn

This is the perfect family home. It has almost 5,000 square feet of living space and a huge unfinished basement. The backyard is surrounded by trees for privacy and the front has great curb appeal. It even has a winter water view!

It’s also in one of the most sought-after neighborhoods around, Downs on the Severn. The Downs – as residents say – has two deep water marinas (one with a rare launch ramp), a community pool, tennis & pickleball courts, and a clubhouse.

This classic colonial is just steps from the pool and clubhouse. Only four homes are closer!

Inside are six bedrooms, 4 and a half bathrooms, and a soaring, two-story great room. Don’t miss your chance to call the Downs home. Brad Kappel’s hosting an open house on May 6!

City Council passes swim team resolution. Now what?

City Council passed a resolution allowing the Truxtun Park Penguins to use 5 of Truxtun Park’s 6 lap pool lanes for 2.5 hours a day, Mon–Thurs, for the 8-week swim season. One crucial piece of language left out of the resolution? When those hours are. Penguins representatives say it’s unfair to switch from times the team’s been practicing for years (5–7:45 PM). City officials and non-swim team parents say kids who don’t write “eat my bubbles” on themselves in Sharpie every weekend want to swim at those times too. Whatever the decision, it must be made soon. The season starts May 30. ($)

💰️1 person - $78,250
💰️2 person - $89,437
💰️3 person - $100,623
💰️4 person - $111,750

New location for SKIN by Hanne Powers

Eastport’s SKIN by Hanne Powers has moved. But unlike my best friend moving when I was four, it’s not the end of the world because Hanne’s just moving *checks notes* right down the street. Her new space, which is open for treatments, is still in Eastport at 918 Chesapeake Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403. Hanne and her team offer facials, DMK enzyme treatments, and more in a space filled with natural light and hygge.

ℹ️ Hygge is a Danish word for coziness or “comfortable conviviality.” It’s a defining part of the culture in Hanne’s native Denmark. And it’s pronounced hoo-guh.

No clicks or treats at this dog training biz

Sisters Tina Fisher and Michele Flynn have opened a new dog training business called Always Faithful Dog Training. This might sound too good to be true but they don’t use treats, clickers, or shock collars. Tina and Michele use a dog’s nature as a pack animal to make you the leader of the pack for perfect obedience. And they do it at your house.

P.S. Always Faithful is a franchise started by a former Marine so service members and veterans get a discount 🇺🇸

County goes all AAA

What does Anne Arundel County have in common with all 8 of your TV remotes? They only accept AAAs. Fitch Ratings just bumped the county to a triple-A bond rating. Since it retained Triple-A ratings from Moody’s and S&P last week, Anne Arundel just joined a more exclusive club than Augusta National. Only 52 of the US’ 3,142 counties rank AAA with all three major credit agencies.

🙋 What does this mean? Triple-A-rated bond issuers can easily meet payment obligations which leads to lower interest rates i.e. cheaper borrowing.
