Good morning, Annapolis. I have a confession to make. Something I’m afraid will ruin all the credibility I’ve built over the past 3 years. . .

I’ve never been to Quiet Waters Park. —Ryan

THE DIGEST

Langton Green updates and beautifies its properties

Watch out Chip and Joanna. Langton Green just renovated its Annapolis main campus and the before and afters are out of this world. According to Langton Green CEO Kimberly Breton-Iaquinta, there hadn’t been major changes since 1984. Now, the kitchens are something you’d see in an Instagram reel.

Langton Green also hired local artist Cindy Fletcher-Holden to add six murals to its 13-acre farm on Generals Highway. It wasn’t her first time working on the farm. She painted two murals for them before the pandemic. They’ll reveal the new murals at a talent show on October 28. ($)

What’s Langton Green? I’m glad you asked. They provide housing, services, and education to adults with disabilities. They also operate the farm to provide vocational training and work opportunities as well as food and income for the organization. Learn more.

Come with us to the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse

The Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse has to be one of the most photographed things on the Bay. It’s certainly the most common subject on Scoop Instagram. Last week we got to take the last tour of the 2023 season and since all 16,683 of you can’t fit on the lighthouse, we made an Instagram reel so you could come along. Check it out!

P.S. If you’re more of a still photo person, check out this photo album.

Impact100 announces 2023 grant recipient

For the sixth gift in its short but impactful history, Impact100 is awarding $90,000 to the Annapolis Symphony Academy, a program of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. ASA is diversifying who studies and enjoys orchestra through strategically located programs, mentoring, and an innovative instrument loan program.

For the unfamiliar, Impact100 is what’s known as a giving circle. Women from all over Anne Arundel County contribute $1,000 to join; then everyone votes on one organization per year to get all the money. This is Impact100’s largest gift to date and they’re hoping to break the record again next year. Maybe you could join?

CIVIL NEWS

City Dock Park heading to planning commission in December

Part of the upcoming City Dock renovation project is scheduled to be discussed in front of Annapolis’s planning commission in December. What exactly will be discussed remains to be seen as the Capital reports that “ideas for the park are not set yet” and the most expensive part of the renovation, the 59 million dollar welcome center, won’t be part of the plan.

City Dock Action Committee co-chair Eileen Fogarty said an approval request for the welcome center will come later because they want as much public input as possible. Planning Commission vice chair Robert Waldman says the Planning Commission needs to see the welcome center plans as they deliberate. ($)

Regardless, between a reimagined City Dock and the recently announced Atlas Restaurant Group x Waterfront Hotel renovation, downtown Annapolis should be a world-class but still historically beautiful waterfront in a few years.
