One Last Taste of Waterfront Dining Before the Cold Rolls In

I’m gonna be honest. We don’t have many warm weekends left. Maybe just one. That’s why we plan to make the most of every one we get at the mu – where local seafood and the best views around do the talking.

Grab a seat outside — whether it’s on the rooftop with panoramic views of downtown and the harbor or on the crab deck just feet from Ego Alley. Sip a crush or choose from 20 draft beers as local musicians set the perfect vibe. And the food? Steamed blue crabs, famous crabcakes, fresh oysters, and more — all Maryland classics that taste even better by the water.

This could be your last chance to enjoy open-air dining this season. Don’t miss it! Head to The Choptank at City Dock before the brisk winds take over.

Dockside dining, watercolor skies — Fall doesn’t get any fresher than this.

THE DIGEST

Major Stories

What do a Caribbean restaurant, burning ship, and scarecrows have in common? They were this week’s top stories!

🍹🌊 Pusser’s moving to Baltimore: Pusser’s Caribbean Grille is setting sail for Lighthouse Marina next summer. After an Annapolis goodbye on October 31, Pusser’s Landing will dock at the Canton waterfront in Baltimore, taking over the Drift Bar. Looks like we jumped the gun with our farewell article. But still . . . cue the tears as this local legend sails away. 😭*($)*

🔥 Peggy Stewart Commemoration: Things are heating up for the 250th anniversary of the Annapolis Tea Party! On October 19, the Peggy Stewart 250 Committee will honor Maryland’s big step into the Revolutionary War. At 7 PM, a drone show over City Dock will retell the fiery tale of colonists defying Britain.

🎃👻Annapolis Scarecrow Stroll: West Street’s Scarecrow Stroll runs 10/20-11/1. And even the lamp posts will be dressed as scarecrows! Businesses, groups, and families will spookify West Street (Circle to Circle), competing for prizes up to $150. Decorating deadline is today (10/18). Voting ends 10/25; winners revealed at the IWSA Masquerade Ball on 10/26.

Dr. Bedell & AACPS deliver on $2K bonus for Food & Nutrition Services 🥕

One of Dr. Mark Bedell’s pledges when he became superintendent of Anne Arundel County Public Schools was to show appreciation and value for all members of the workforce. His latest accomplishment: Getting approval from the Board of Education for $2K retention bonuses for Food & Nutrition Services employees. Team members received their first $1K bonus payment this week, and they’ll receive their second when they’ve completed their contract at the end of the school year.

Where were we Wednesday? 📸

ANSWER:

Is that a lighthouse playing the drums? And a sunflower on the sax? You bet your bottom molars it is. Incidentally, this cute mural stands outside Annapolis Pediatric Dentistry.

Everyone – we have an announcement! For the first time ever, we had 100% correct response rate on Where Are We Wednesday. All three of you who answered did so correctly. So congrats to you dental-conscious and observant folk: @kmikdawg, @danie_chi, and @mariajoad87. 🎉 Thanks for playing!

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

Foodie Friday 🍦🦀🍹

The stars of the show this week are bagels, booze, and crabs. And anyone who knows writer Lauren won’t be the slightest bit surprised.

BAGELS 🥯

Naval Bagels grand opening in Edgewater: Arnold and Annapolis sister spots recently welcomed their third sibling, Naval Bagels in Edgewater (3139 Solomons Island Road). Patrons can expect the same community-space-feel and hours: Monday–Saturday from 6 AM to 2 PM, and Sundays from 7 AM to 2 PM.

Known for their traditional boiled-and-baked bagel method, Naval Bagels has earned a loyal following with specialties like the Avocado Delight sandwich. True Marylanders love the Old Bay Bagels! 🦀🥯

FALL DRINK SPECIALS 🍹🍻🍷

Annapolis Market House: Cozy vibes only with their Honey Whiskey Ginger Mule (with local Poplar Hill Honey) and Spiced Apple Mule! Toast to live music by Alex G and Faith Estrada tonight from 7–10 PM.

Yellowfin Steak & Fish House: Draft beer for $5 or house wines for $7 is reason enough to cheer. But wait, there’s more. Half-priced appetizers are back! Savor Mini Brie, Chicken Wings, BBQ ribs, and much more. Check out their new seasonal mocktails: Orchard Mule, Autumn in Vermont, and Mountain Spray. Drink specials and 1/2-priced apps offered Tuesday through Sunday, 4–7 PM.

OKTOBERFEST 🍻

Mother’s: Visit Mother's Peninsula Grille in Arnold this Sunday (10/20) for a day full of live entertainment, games (think stein hoisting contest), and German food and beer specials! Entry costs $12.51. Much cheaper than a flight to Europe, btw. Buy ahead.

P.S. Jimmy Cantler’s Riverside Inn—“Cantler’s” to locals—is celebrating its 50th birthday. 🎂 HBD to the spot we’ll post up at any time for our crab fix! 🦀

Office of Planning and Zoning Wants Your Opinions

What’s more important to you: green space or public transport? Affordable housing or economic development? Residents living in regions 5, 6, and 8 have the opportunity to weigh in with the County now through November 1. Filling out the Vision Questionnaire helps the county understand the needs of residents and stakeholders as they update zoning maps.

There’s also the opportunity to apply for changes in zoning restrictions, which affects what types of structures you can have on your property. If you need changes made for your property or neighborhood, you have until December 16 to fill out an application for review.
