THE DIGEST
Gift of Trees 🌳
Stumped on gift ideas? We’ve got a tree-mendous suggestion for any occasion (whether it’s the winter holidays or anything else throughout the year). Maryland DNR lets you give the gift of a tree. That’s right — you can buy a tree in your name or the name of a special recipient for anywhere between $40 and $400. You get a certificate in the mail, and your tree will be planted on public land in your county (or your recipient’s county) during the next growing season. It’s a gift that not only makes the area a little greener and a little prettier but also attracts wildlife and reduces soil erosion. You can buy just one tree, two trees, or even a grove of trees. Order online.
Eastport Street Closures: Jefferson Street, Boucher Avenue 🚧
We know it always stinks to hear streets are going to be closed for 3 weeks. But closing down parts of Jefferson Street and Boucher Avenue in Eastport gives Annapolis DPW’s contractors the chance to inspect and rehabilitate ~1,700 feet of sewer mains, which ultimately extends their life. Work began yesterday and is expected to take about 3 weeks. Closures include:
🚙 Jefferson Street from Boucher Avenue to Burnside Street (except for residents with driveways)
🚙 Boucher Avenue starting at Jefferson Street (except to residents of the immediate area)
Note that emergency vehicles will not be able to pass.

You don’t need medicine. You need to stretch.
Don’t take it from us. Take it from the Washington Post. As reported by health and wellness columnist Gretchen Reynolds, “If your body is flexible, you’re likely to live longer than someone whose body and joints are tight and rigid, according to the first, large-scale study of the links between flexibility and mortality.” In the study by Claudio Gil S. Araujo, 3,139 men and women between ages 46 and 65 completed an evaluation of overall flexibility. Researchers followed them for more than a decade. They found that people with the stiffest joints — especially women — were substantially more likely to die prematurely than those with greater flexibility. Assisted stretching decreases pain, improves posture and mobility, and increases longevity. One Scoop reader said StretchMed Annapolis literally changed his life. So what are you waiting for? Book your no-cost intro stretch today.
