THE DIGEST

The biggest stories we covered this week

🥖 Black Market Bakers is expanding again. Two new locations are coming: one in Churchton at the old Wagon Wheel and another at 1804 West Street. Scones, cruffins, and sourdough sandwiches are about to get a whole lot closer.

🍽️ Outdoor dining is here to stay. Annapolis restaurants can now serve al fresco up to nine months a year — no appeals board required. Just don’t expect tables in Market Space or Inner West Street.

📊 Mayor Buckley dropped his final budget. The $200 million proposal includes raises for city employees, a stable tax rate, and funds to fix Weems Whalen Field but does not include a property tax increase.

🐟 The Chesapeake Catfish Cookoff is May 3. Top local chefs will turn an invasive menace into mouthwatering magic. Expect blue catfish, oysters, sides, cocktails, live music, and electric boat rides.

Library Closures

Bad news, bookworms. We’ve hit a plot twist. Two beloved library branches are temporarily closed.

📚 Discoveries: The Library at the Mall is closed through Friday, May 2. The book drop is still open.

📚 The Severna Park Library will close Monday (4/21) through Friday (5/2) for parking lot repaving. It’s a total cliffhanger: no building access, no book drop, not even curbside service. Holds will be sent to the Riviera Beach Library at 1130 Duvall Hwy in Pasadena during this time.

🐣 All libraries are closed Sunday, April 20 for Easter.

LOCAL BUSINESS

It’s time for boat-up burgers 🚤 🍔

Beacon Waterfront Galley & Bar has officially opened its dock for the season at Chesapeake Harbour Marina. Cruise up, tie off, and grab a crush or a crabcake. Or both. . . If you’re coming by car (don’t worry there’s still seats on the dock for you), Beacon’s located within the gated community of Chesapeake Harbour but don’t stress, they have visitor passes at the gate for restaurant patrons. Dock slips are first come, first served, and big enough for most boats under 30 feet.

Now Open: Firebirds Wood Fired Grill 🔥

Firebirds Wood Fired Grill just opened at Beacon Square (2500 Riva Rd) next to Arhaus. They’re still waiting on its liquor license — expected in May — but the scratch-made menu is up and running. Think flame-grilled steaks, seafood, and killer sides. Here’s the dinner menu but they have quite a few more online.

Foodie Friday: Food Truck Fridays 🚐

Why does food from a truck taste better? We don’t make the rules, but we do respect them. Fridays from 4–8 PM, head to 275 Harry S. Truman Pkwy (home of the county farmers’ market). Here’s what’s cooking  . . .

🍕Wanna Pizza This: Two of our passions collide: puns and pizza. Get pizza galore, including Chicken Pesto, Crab Dip, Buffalo Chicken, Margherita, and BBQ Chicken.

🍗 Cluck ‘N Spud: This place is saucy — with ample sauces for wings and sandwiches. Speaking of sandwiches, try the Big Cluck Sandwich or Pulled Cluck Sandwich. Also, why didn’t we think of Nacho Spuds? Cheese fries + nacho toppings = joy.

🍪🍦Sweet Satisfaction: Cap it all off with Old Fashion Soft Serve. Go for the “Twist” so you don’t have to choose between vanilla or chocolate. We highly recommend the Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich (all flavors, really).

Spring is in the air 🍀

You know that neighbor who had the perfect green lawn last summer? They started preparing for that in spring, likely with Lawn Doctor. Let me explain.

During winter, grass growth slows significantly, and some types even go dormant due to the cold. This can leave your lawn vulnerable to weeds, thinning, and stress damage. A well-timed spring treatment with essential nutrients, pre-emergent, and weed control helps strength the grass, promote healthy lawn growth, and prepare it for the warmer months ahead!

And their expertise doesn’t stop there. They’ll even give you mowing techniques so your grass will be the envy of the neighborhood all summer long. Get your free quote today and check out their newsletter to learn more!
