Reader's Recommendation: Too Good to Go?

This weekā€™s recommendation is a bit different. It comes from Martha, who has a tip that puts the app in Annapolis. We know Annapolis only has one P but the pun was too good to pass on.

ā€œIs there any way you can find out more or spread the word about the app Too Good To Go? It offers discounts on food from eateries and stores that have a surplus at the close of business, helping you save money and reducing food waste. You can see which places have leftovers from the day and what time theyā€™ll be ready for pick-up ā€” some give you details, but most are ā€œsurprise bagsā€ ā€” then reserve what you want, pay through the app, and pick up at the designated time. I can see that Naval Bagels uses it now. I frequent there anyway to grab a bag of day-olds, but I was curious if other businesses would be into this.ā€ ā€“ Martha

Great tip, Martha! When you download Too Good to Goo, itā€™s easy enough to use your location to see who participates nearby. We found Naval Bagels, Whole Foods (prepared foods and bakery) and Squisito. But itā€™s super easy for new businesses to sign up.

The primary goal is to reduce food waste so here are some reminders:

  • Itā€™s first-come, first-served

  • You donā€™t get a choice in what you get for the discounted price. That includes no guarantees about allergens or dietary restrictions.

  • Everything is edible, but it may be at (or just past) its expiration date

Thanks for the scoop, Martha!

Just announced: The 41st Annapolis Cup

In every great town, there is a great marquee event. Annapolis happens to have several ā€“ Blue Angels, EYC Lights Parade, St. Patrickā€™s Parade, and of course . . . the Annapolis Cup. Legend has it that in 1982, the commandant of the Naval Academy told a St. Johnā€™s freshman the Mids could beat the Johnnies in any sport. The Johnnie proposed croquet, and the Annapolis Cup was born.

So on April 5, the two schools will battle it out through the wickets in front of 4,000 fans who probably have no idea whatā€™s happening but look the business. Everyone dons their finest spring attire for this one. Tickets go on sale March 3. Weā€™ll remind you again but until then, save the date and start shopping! Btw, itā€™s impossible to go overboard with the outfits here. Proof:

When are the Annapolis Boat Shows in 2025? ā›µļøšŸ›„ļøšŸš¤

We say ā€œmark your calendarsā€ often, but this time we really, really, really, really mean it. Thatā€™s 4 reallys in honor of this yearā€™s 4 best boat shows (if you ask us).

šŸ›„ļø Bay Bridge Boat Show: April 11ā€“13

  • Note the new location of Safe Harbor Narrows Point! See all types of boats from fishing boats and trawlers to pontoon boats and luxury cruisers.

These 3 take place at City Dock per usual:

ā›µļø Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show: April 25ā€“27
šŸš¤ Annapolis Powerboat Show: October 2ā€“5
ā›µļø Annapolis Sailboat Show: October 9ā€“12

P.S. You do not have to buy a boat to go to the boat shows. You donā€™t even have to be a boater! Itā€™s a great low-cost way to, shall we say, get your feet wet.
