Parade of Lights, Clydesdales, and Thanksgiving pickleball...

TOGETHER WITH
Brad Kappel key and anchor logo

Good morning, Annapolis. Welcome to November. I have a feeling we’re about to see a lot of mustaches around town.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • Thanksgiving pickleball

  • Clydesdales

  • Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade

Let’s get to it.

—Ryan Sneddon & Rebecca Kraybill

Slaughter across the Water

Coke vs. Pepsi, Tom vs. Jerry, the Ravens & Steelers. Imagine if these famous rivals worked out their differences over a game of tug-of-war. Silly, right? But it works for Annapolis and Eastport.

The longest international tug of war over water in the world is just 3 days away. On Saturday (11/4), The Tug returns rain or shine with 33 tuggers to a team, 2 sides of the creek, and 1 raucous good time had by all. Like all great MRE events, the Tug starts at the Crack o' Noon. Registration opens at 10 AM.

P.S. If you want to tug for Annapolis, sign up here. If you want to tug for Eastport, arrive early and ask the registration table if any teams need people. Participation is not guaranteed.

P.P.S. If you’re tugging, definitely bring gloves.

THE DIGEST

One of Annapolis’ best Christmas traditions

While about half the town watches Army-Navy on December 9, the other half will be participating and watching an even more “Annapolis” tradition – The Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade. This is when boaters and sailors deck their vessels out with animated characters, classy displays, and sometimes just plain weird lights. Then they parade down Ego Alley and Spa Creek while thousands enjoy from dry land. Want to participate, volunteer, or sponsor? Click here for more info.

The Clydesdales in Annapolis

Mark your calendar for December 27. The world’s most famous horses are returning to Annapolis for the Military Bowl Parade from City Dock to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is at 2 PM so the parade stepoff will be early. We won’t know who’s playing until December – but we know it will be an ACC team and an AAC team. If you like surprises, tickets are already on sale.

Dunkin’ Donuts makes $10k donation to food bank

All treats, no tricks here. Dunkin’ Donuts’ charitable arm, Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation, gave the Anne Arundel County Food Bank a $10,000 check yesterday. Btw, we talk a lot about supporting local here at Scoop so this is a good time to remember that some chains (like Dunkin’) are franchises â€“ meaning regular people own them.

Most of our local Dunkin’s are owned by a sailor named Todd Lalumiere. And not only that, but the people who work in those stores live here too. So if you like your coffee and a Dunkin’ donut, you do you.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

Dinksgiving Pickleball Tournament

There are two kinds of families on this Earth – those who run holiday 5Ks and those who don’t. But I’d like to propose an alternative. . . a holiday pickleball tournament. Dinksgiving is the first-ever Thanksgiving tournament at Ball at the Mall November 18–20. Registration is available to players at level 3.0 and above and there’s even a dedicated youth bracket.

Art Between the Creeks 〰

Remember Zach Galifianakis’ interview show Between Two Ferns? You could call the Annapolis version Between Two Creeks. Art Between the Creeks isn’t quite that, but it is an art show featuring artists who live or work between Spa Creek and Back Creek. The opening reception is Friday (11/3) from 6–9 PM at Backyard Boats in Eastport. You can view (and buy) work from 22 local artists. The exhibit is up through November 12, so pop in Wednesday through Sunday if you miss the party.

Nothing in this section is sponsored. They're just the things you need to know. I'll always let you know when something's sponsored.
