What's next for Tessemae's, community support grants, MLK Jr. Day...
TOGETHER WITH
Good morning, Annapolis. MLK Jr. Day doesn’t always land on Dr. King’s birthday; it’s always the third Monday of January. But this year, it does happen to be MLK’s true birthday, January 15. We hope you enjoy the long weekend in his honor.
Let’s get to it.
— Ryan Sneddon, Rebecca Kraybill, Dylan Roche, & Lauren Burke Meyer
P.S. Happy birthday to Corey Tolliver! 🍰

Coyote name finalists are here. Vote now 🗳️
The names are in! We have 6 final names for the new decoy coyote at Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse. Head here to vote for your favorite. We promise this will be the most inconsequential vote you’ll cast in 2024 😉
P.S. If you’re wondering why there’s one clear human name among the animal names, it’s the name of the fisherman who suggested the coyote.
Community Support Grants
Whoever said the best things in life are free was being a little optimistic. Some good deeds cost money. But if you’re a nonprofit in Anne Arundel County, you may be in luck. Applications for Community Support Grants are now open through February 22 for an anticipated $2 million in total grants.
So, who’s a good fit for the grant? Priority will be given to programs and initiatives aimed at “providing services to underserved populations, addressing the health and well-being of communities, promoting equity and inclusion, and eliminating the Opportunity Gap in education.”
Interested in the grants but intimidated by the application? ACDS has a workshop January 18 at 11 AM. Check out this link to learn more about the training or to access the ACDS Neighborly Portal where you can submit a grant application.

LOCAL BUSINESS
🥗 Tessemae’s salad dressing pending sale after Chapter 11 bankruptcy
Tessemae’s local founders, the Vetter brothers, will leave the company after its pending $4.5 million sale to Panos Brands. The deal currently awaits U.S. Bankruptcy Court approval. But don’t pour one out for the popular salad dressing brand just yet. Despite the ownership change, Tessemae’s products will likely remain in regional and national retailers.
CEO Greg Vetter and brother Brian and Matt, all Annapolis High School grads, started brand in 2009 with an all-natural salad dressing based on their mother’s recipe. They expanded from one Whole Foods to 12,500 nationwide stores in less than 15 years.
Despite making the No. 1 organic salad dressing in the U.S. for 15 years, challenges arose with demand outpacing supply, pandemic-related issues, and layoffs. The founders plan to embark on new ventures, including Alta Fresh Foods and Homegrown Brands. ($)
