7-hour power outage, sporting women in the spotlight, get to the Greek...

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. PSA: Unless thereā€™s a cop directing traffic, intersections act as four-way stops during power outages.

Letā€™s get to it.

Maritime Museum opens gorgeous pavilion

The folks at the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park have been pretty adamant about not forgetting ā€œ& Parkā€ recently. And now that the Merrill Family Pavilion is open, itā€™s not hard to see why. The 2,600-square-foot pavilion is the piĆØce de rĆ©sistance of the museumā€™s Park Campus ā€“ home of the September Sunsets concert series.

Itā€™s available for rent just like the museum in Eastport; in fact, itā€™ll host its first wedding this very weekend. To counteract less than ideal weather, there are clear, removable side panels and four giant fans. Which werenā€™t on because like half of Annapolis, the pavilion had no power last night. But I bet they would have made it 5ā€“10 degrees cooler. And when you need 5ā€“10 degrees the other way, thereā€™s a giant, wood-burning fireplace.

Thereā€™s no venue quite like this in Annapolis. Contact Amber Herr at the museum for rental inquiries.

Crabs with the second best view in town

The Choptank may seem like a fancy schmancy restaurant. But itā€™s a classic fish and crab house at its core. And since this is Maryland, thereā€™s nothing like eating crabs on the water.

You can have a crab feast at The Choptank just like your backyard. Paper on the table, beer buckets within armā€™s reach, and ride-or-die friends at your side. Itā€™s even better though because you donā€™t have to clean up. Theyā€™ll do it for you!

ā€˜Tis the season. Grab your friends and make a reservation at The Choptank for a crab feast today.

P.S. If Choptank has the second best view, you may be wondering whoā€™s best. Thatā€™d be my friend Xander but we canā€™t go inviting everyone to his house now can we?

ā€œAnd for that reason, Iā€™m outā€ ā€“Mark Cuban Electricity yesterday

Over 70,000 BGE customers in Anne Arundel County lost power yesterday afternoon. It wreaked havoc on businesses, WFHers, and perhaps most noticeably . . . roads. The City of Annapolis released a statement blaming ā€œa power disruption at the Cedar Park substationā€ for the outage. BGE released a statement blaming ā€œequipment failure.ā€ According to BGEā€™s outage map, nearly all homes had power back by 10:30 PM.

Seoul Blues Coffee & Dessert opens at Westfield Annapolis

Seoul Blues is now open at Annapolis Mall. And it is a total vibe. No more than two or three chairs match, the lights have personality, and there are board games throughout the restaurant. You can get ice cream, La Colombe coffee, or choose a pastry from a prodigious display case. Check it out right next to Rodizio Grill.

Annapolis Crystals grand opening

Theyā€™ve been open for a few days but Saturday is the official grand opening of Annapolis Crystals at 228 Main Street. If you want to see what all the hypnosis hype is about, stop by between 10 AM and 5 PM. Along with crystals, the store offers hypnosis, intuitive card readings, chakra healing, and more.

Coffee, Cars, & Cops

You know what dads love? Aside from falling asleep during movies, bad jokes, and clinking grill tongs. . . . They love cars.

So if you are a dad, have a dad, are married to a dad, or you just love cars, you might want to block 9ā€“11 AM on June 18 on your calendar.

Westfield Annapolis is hosting the Mid-Atlantic Venom Mustangs & Muscle Cars Club and Anne Arundel County PD for a family-friendly gearhead gathering. Aside from the cars, there will also be a DJ, food trucks, and other family-friendly activities.

Summer concerts return

Although summer isnā€™t officially here for 19 more days, why let the Farmersā€™ Almanac get in the way of good branding? Two popular summer concert series make their return this weekend.

  • Annapolis Town Center. Dust off the old Aloha shirt. Itā€™s an island party at ATCā€™s Boathouse Pavilion as Sons of Pirates kick off this 13-week series. 5ā€“8 PM next to P.F. Changā€™s.

  • City Dock. Thanks to the Annapolis Art in Public Places Commission we can enjoy live music at Susan Campbell Park most Sundays during the summer and tango dancing every other Friday. The Bayside Big Band kicks it off this Sunday from 6ā€“8 PM.

Letā€™s Go! Music Festival šŸŽø

While weā€™re talking concerts, we canā€™t forget the Letā€™s Go! Music Festival. Now in its third year, Annapolisā€™ homegrown music festival more than tripled in size from year 1 to year 2. With names like 311, Cold War Kids, Chris Young, and Kip Moore, we canā€™t wait to see what they cook up this year. Single-day tickets start at $55, weekend tickets start at $185, and if you really want to ball out, check out VIP or the Captainā€™s Boxes. Letā€™s Go rocks the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds Friday night and all day Saturday/Sunday.

Pride Parade and Festival šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ

Get ready for rainbows and some very creative floats (who remembers the giant joint?). The Annapolis Pride Parade and Festival is Saturday. Step off is at Amos Garrett Blvd and West St at 12 PM. Unlike most parades, this one stops at Calvert Street on West Street. Then there will be a festival with live entertainment, food and drink vendors, and local shopping that goes right up until about 5 PM.

Letā€™s break a record āš½ļø

The Annapolis Blues semi-pro soccer team has its home opener Saturday and we want to make some history. Detroit holds the attendance record for an NPSL soccer team. The Blues want to break that record with their first official match. Ticket sales are trending in the right direction (over 6,000 sold) but there need to be over 7,400 people to break the record. A full-price ticket is just $12 ($10 for kids) and the first friendly was a blast. Kickoff is at 7 PM at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Donā€™t miss the official tailgate! Get tickets.

Greek Festival šŸ‡¬šŸ‡·

Ready for your fix of homemade Greek food, pastries, music, and more? Then donā€™t miss the Annapolis Greek Festival Saturday and Sunday at Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. The fun runs from 11 AM to 9 PM Saturday and 11 AM to 7 PM Sunday. Best of all? This festival is 100% free. Even parking.

First Sunday Arts

The second First Sunday Arts Festival of 2023 is this weekend. On Sunday from 11 AM to 5 PM, over 100 vendors take over West Street and Peopleā€™s Park to sell pottery, yummy treats, handmade jewelry, and so much more. Thereā€™s live music in the Stan & Joeā€™s parking lot and at Peopleā€™s Park. Click here for the huge list of vendors.

Paint Annapolis šŸŽØ

The 22nd Paint Annapolis begins this Sunday. For the uninitiated, Paint Annapolis is a weeklong, en plein air (AKA outside) painting competition. It all starts Sunday with Dueling Brushes. Artists will have 2 hours (9ā€“11 AM) to find a spot downtown and finish an original painting from a blank canvas. An exhibition of completed works will be held at Susan Campbell Park from 11:30 AMā€“2 PM. Winners will be announced at 1 PM. You must be registered for Paint Annapolis to participate (itā€™s not too late!).

Sporting women in the spotlight

Two all-woman sports teams are heading out of Annapolis this weekend; although for one, the journey is the competition. In 38 runnings of the Annapolis to Newport sailing race (AKA A2N), no team has ever been 100% female. Until this year. Leading the Change! is an all-woman team with an average age of 26. Theyā€™ll sail on a Tartan 4100 called Kyrie ā€“ owned by Annapolis resident Beth Berry.

Our other team is heading a bit farther afield. The Severn River Womenā€™s Rugby Football Club is heading to Nationals in St. Louis and we want to wish them a huge good luck! Theyā€™ll take on the Milwaukee Scylla Saturday at 4 PM. If they win, a spot in the 12 PM finals awaits on Sunday.
