West Annapolis Oktoberfest, rainy day activities, and the Caps came to town...

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. Tropical storms and outdoor events go together like wine and milk so we expect many things to be canceled this weekend. Always a good idea to do a quick status check before heading out the door. Click the ☂️ on any event in today’s Scoop to do just that.

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • West Annapolis Oktoberfest

  • Scoop’s Scavenger Hunt date change

  • ArtFarm’s new studio

Let’s get to it.

Great Naptown Scavenger Hunt date change

So nobody wants to do a scavenger hunt in 25mph winds and driving rain. Actually, almost a dozen teams did sign up and we love them for it. But we’ve decided to move Scavenger Hunt.

Instead of running Saturday to Sunday (9/23–24), it’s now going to run Sunday to Sunday (9/24–10/1).

That’s right. It’s open all week long. Play every day. Play once. It’s up to you.

We’ll post a leaderboard update every day as the week goes on and new teams can join any time.

Btw, we’re still going to send the challenges tomorrow so you can plot and plan while hiding from the rain. But you can’t submit any until Sunday at 7 AM.

Want free oysters? 🦪

Don't we all just love The Choptank? Well, it just got even better.

Atlas Restaurant Group just launched their very own mobile app. That means you can now earn points for every dollar you spend at The Choptank. Points you can redeem for rewards (aka free food).

You earn a $10 reward at 500 points, for example. That’s a free Maryland Crab Soup. And that’s not all! Atlas rewards members also get a free dessert on their birthday.

If you happen to be in cities like Baltimore, Philadelphia, or Washington D.C., you can earn points at one of Atlas’ dozens of other locations which you can redeem for delicious free food on our very own Ego Alley.

Washington Caps learn from the best

The Washington Capitals’ coaches wanted their rookies to bond. So they dropped them off for a surprise activity. It didn’t involve ice. But it did involve Annapolis. Can you guess it?

Together, 21 players scaled ropes, logs, and platforms just like Plebes. They also got a tour of the Academy and ate in the dining hall. Let’s hope it leads to the next superstar because we won’t have Ovi forever. ($)

LOCAL BUSINESS

West Annapolis Oktoberfest

Ein prosit der gemütlichkeit! That’s German for “a toast to cheer and good times.” Organizers say Oktoberfest happens on Annapolis Street rain or shine (unless it gets hazardous) so start practicing that phrase.

There’s food, beer, music, shopping, and fun. And a little tip: if you’re doing Scoop’s scavenger hunt, this might be a great place to find Ryan and Marianne for some major points. But you didn’t hear that from me. 11 AM – 4 PM on 9/24. –Rebecca

New pastures for ArtFarm 🐄

There are no animals or crops here, but the Farm is still growing. Alison Harbaugh and Darin Gilliam, the duo behind ArtFarm Studios, just launched their second creative studio.

It’s called AND Creative, located at 1851 McGuckian St.

The “AND” is a nod to its versatility. The 2,500-square-foot space can hold art galleries, concerts, meetings, photoshoots, and much more. Get it? Check it out.

The Jongro team focuses on providing the real Korean experience, which can be seen in everything. It's easy to forget you're actually at the Annapolis Mall.

And parents, listen up. . . Jongro is completely free for kids under 3 feet tall. And you only pay half the price for kids between 3 and 4.7 feet tall. For adults of all heights, they have an all-you-can-eat option and a huge bar*. Make a reservation and try Annapolis' newest restaurant!

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’

When life gives you trash, make music ♻️

This is a true trash-to-treasure story. Landfill Harmonic is a film about the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura. Did you know 40% of kids in Cateura, Paraguay don’t finish school?

To keep them out of trouble, an engineer named Favio Chávez had a crazy idea. Take trash from the local landfill, turn it into instruments, and teach the kids to play. He’s now had over 200 students!

Tonight (9/22) at Maryland Hall, you can watch the incredible story on film and hear the orchestra perform. Tickets.

Crabtown Ceili 🪕

A ceili (“kay-leigh”) is a night of social dancing to live Irish traditional music. The Crabtown Ceili promises just that. There’s a caller who announces what to do, so it’s all beginner-friendly. And who can resist dances named “The Haymaker’s Jig” and “The Walls of Limerick”?! Tonight (9/22) at the Annapolis Friends Meeting House, 7–9:30 PM! $20 at the door.

Escape the rain (and get drenched in drama 🎭)

Saturday’s looking like a perfect day . . . to sit inside. So you might as well spend it inside a theater. The Colonial Players of Annapolis are knee-deep in the first show of a new season, Tartuffe. It’s a classic French comedy with comedy, disguises, and rhyming couplets.

Oh, and on Saturday (9/23) there’s a cameo from Scoop publisher Ryan. Shows run through 9/30. Tickets.
