AAPI Fest, Urbano is hiring, GOAT golf coach retiring...

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Annapolis. Thank you to Scoop reader Lyn McDermott for helpfully pointing out last week that “Niagra Falls” is actually spelled Niagara Falls. I didn’t forget to type the “a.” I just really thought it was spelled that way. – RS

In today’s Naptown Scoop:

  • AAPI Fest 🇯🇵 🇰🇷 🇻🇳 🇹🇼 🇵🇭 🇹🇭

  • Urbano hiring fair

  • 🐐 golf coach retiring

Let’s get to it.

THE DIGEST

Key Bridge cleanup begins 🔑 🌉

Demolition crews began cutting pieces of the Key Bridge on Saturday. Two barges with a 650-ton crane and a 330-ton crane respectively will work with a 230-ton crane on shore to clear the wreckage. The Captain of the Port is preparing to establish a temporary channel for “commercially essential” vessels. It will have a controlling depth of 11 feet, 264 feet of horizontal clearance, and 96 feet of vertical clearance.

Navy’s Pat Owen retiring 🏌️‍♂️

Pat Owen is the GOAT of USNA golf. 🐐 He joined in 1988 as a men’s assistant coach. Just 3 years later, he assumed men’s and women’s head coaching duties and oversight of the Naval Academy Golf Club (NAGA). He retired from coaching in 2022 but continued to serve as golf director and lead the NAGA. Pat will retire entirely on June 1.

🏆 Pat earned Patriot League Coach of the Year honors nine times and NCAA District II Coach of the Year in 1996. My only question is what does a golf coach look forward to when he retires? Guessing it’s not more golf.

Eater DC features SOB 🦪

We’re suckers for stories with happy endings, so we’re loving that Sailor Oyster Bar is back open after a nearly 2-year closure because of an accidental fire. Turns out we aren’t the only ones. Eater DC dropped by and wrote an awesome feature on Sailor’s new digs. If you haven’t tried the new SOB yet, this is a sign. Read the full feature.
